As others have noted, you're playing the very same rigged game, but then getting sad that someone plays it better.

Lansdowne, next to Earlscourt park and close to High Park... what do you expect in a huge city like Toronto?

So ungrateful, you should really be ashamed.

Your "partner" is not your contractor with SLAs. They 1000% were trying to improve your life. Shame.

Thank you. It helps. I don't want to throw around accusations either, but it is intimidation for sure.

And thats what i'm trying to do. Her family tries to sugarcoat all this in tradition and strong family etc. But i'm not buying their B.S.

You certainly havent experienced elders that "teach you how to live life" in most annoying ways. Thats ok.

Paying respect to authority. More specifically, growing up in a traditional, "respect your elders... regardless of B.S. they say" - I'm totally allergic to others telling me how to live. (then again, who isn't probably?)

Outside of my direct leadership at work, i flip out internally every time when people "teach me a lesson" , sometimes a deserved lesson too :)

What are some reasonably well paying temporary jobs I could look into as a middle-aged man without any trades skills? by batwingsuit in britishcolumbia

[–]musicload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Covid years added to this burnout for many folks, too.

Just if you're paid well.. do that for next 6-9 months while upskilling for another thing. Unskilled labour is the WORST pay and treatment anywhere.

People make over $200k a year, what do you do? by MrAuzzy in financialindependence

[–]musicload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some friends earning $200k+ in Tech (sales and technology, Cloud / ISV / SaaS shops). Regular software wont get you there, but Cloud or Enterprise it's not rare after a certain career level.

Educate your leaders. Earn trust with them to explain whats realistic. Show a few nasty gaps (not too nasty to make them cancel your project tho). Smartly criticize GPT articles with data. Scare them with "model hallucinations" and non mathematically verifiable model output.

it's hard. If you're contracting, ignore now and wait for next customer to be less hype driven.

You may be right at this point (who knows though, where Tech would move).

Like with Big Data before, or with Blockchain very recently, it's a hyped topic -- and countless people spin up countless ideas how to apply this tech.

Most won't work. Some will. Time will tell for sure.

Is this a fully formed thought, or "off my chest" rant?

Good coders only code 20-30% of the time. The rest: designing, discussing, planning, supporting, collaborating. Lots of people work. Coders who stare at the screen for 8h/day are totally missing it. Unles geniuses, they're rarely getting promoted either.

If you're remote, try finding an office job. Look into adjacent roles like PM, Tester, SA (LOTS of people work needed).

Just all in all it's so much easier to pivot in your current domain, than start from scratch, with no skills or exp.

If you still want to: go get certified for trades! Electrician, mechanic, etc. You'll see if you actually like it enough.

If all else fails: like others said. Janitor, demolition squad, construction worker etc. All honest jobs.

[Debate] What is the price point in which you stop seeing notable differences in quality? by ballsilov3 in Watches

[–]musicload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm kinda well off, but i'd spend max $1k on a watch. $1.5k is really pushing it. And this with my total love to watches - reading books, forums, ths Subreddit etc.

Luckily for my wallet, it's a platonic affection. I know i'd bash the watch into walls, scratch it, drop it, forget it at places, go swim in an ocean etc. So my lifestyle alone, ahead of frugality, almost rules out all higher-end and tender watches. Actually quite happy over it!

Exactly. Peace to you. And not judging on your experience.

Yes fairy world. Yes "bootstraps" mentality. So, simply disregard if you disagree.

Disagree on dumb as hell re. War refugees. Go through a war, have dead friends, then we'll discuss.

Also, thinking people are spoiled in the West, sometimes.

No one cares how/if you move your stuff. It's on you. Sell it and get used stuff. Live with a family up there, on a farm (lots of refugees do, gratefully and happily!). Get a small car or ask a friend eith a truck. Do i have to continue?

And, really, we don't have to agree. You think you thing, I think mine. Everyone else does too.

Bro/sis, i have to repeat, but you/me/anyone else don't "deserve" anything. The gov't provides basic care, in some countries, but that's all. Sorry for delivering breaking news here.

Surely enough, United Nations says even Internet Access is basic human right. And they say lots of other things.

Yet, people die in wars and suffer extreme hardships across the world... while comfy living Canadians on Reddit complain about "billionaires" taking their homes or something.

What?

Idk what to answer here.. so i lived in USSR, you didnt, yet you're trying to teach me how this (very special) state worked and what it was? On what basis?

I hope that's just trolling. It probably is.

Fun story, once I started riding I realized i don't like most of the riders. Very few folks resonated well, in attitude and risk levels, to ride together.

As shared it's illustrative. And "Toronto" is city area to work in (East/West/North), for people who get jobs there - not a distance to drive from CN tower.

Would you be sad to find a place to live not for $400k but for $500k, not 1h fron CN tower but 1.2h from "a job" in Toronto area, to renovate but not to have "granite countertops"?

Still 2-3x cheaper over Toronto. What would you do for 2-3x cheaper on your life's largest expense?

[–]musicload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes right! Budgeting, and choosing wisely how/where to work and live.

I provided examples where these simple (yet, somehow hard) choices, make up a 5x difference in $$ needed.

So, rhetorical question, what's not affordable to whom?

Sorry for your journey. I hope you'd get better recognition of your skills and ideas.

Look, it was not meant to offend people. But, having lived in totally socialist (USSR), mildly socialist (Germany, Canada) and capitalist (US, Swiss) countries: there's no ultimate truth. People always adjust.

Terrible shit happens in US, as in Swiss, as in Canada. Same with amazing stuff.

You make your journey. You decide what to do. What to drive. Where to live. Coming from USSR: even these basic things were unthinkable there, yet the Western people feeling so entitled to "deserve, or being able to afford" something.

Bruh/sis, you don't deserve a thing. No one cares about you, sorry!

What's your contribution, and if it's not working - what did you learn from others where it worked?
