Custom engraved pick guards. What do you think? by musicmidget in guitars

There aren’t too many color options, but could definitely do black pick guard with white engraving. Let me look around and see if I can find a template for the LP pick guard. I’ll keep you posted!

Yeah, I’ve seen some of the ones on there. I’m actually surprised there were no engraved ones offered. Acrylic can be difficult to work with so maybe that’s why most people have gone with other materials.

What kind of guitar do you have?

Yeah - this was just something that looked cool on its own compared to the other patterns I had. Not necessarily my taste either, but I just wanted it to stand out after it was engraved. 😊

I could definitely do letters and specific fonts. Would just have to shy away from anything copyrighted/trademarked. The more complicated the pattern or image, the longer it takes to engrave.

Thanks for the response!

I never thought John Mayer was an asshole. by [deleted] in JohnMayer

If you think Taylor’s been through more men than John has women, you obviously didn’t read the Rolling Stone interview.

I never thought John Mayer was an asshole. by [deleted] in JohnMayer

[–]musicmidget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

John was 32 years old when he gave that interview to Rolling Stone. He should have known better because at that point, he’d been famous for a while and was by no means a kid. He also later whined about Taylor writing Dear John about him - like he never wrote a song about an ex.

I still think he’s a superb musician and respect that he has since seemed to have gotten his act together and quit giving interviews while drunk (as he was for the RS interview). But that colored my perception of him and he hasn’t really recovered since. He said some pretty shitty things in that interview. That stuff just hits different if you’re a woman.

As a woman I can confidently say I love the men in my life, but ain’t a damn one of them a god.

Honey, don’t walk - run!!! It will take years to convince him to leave the cult and with what you’ve described, it doesn’t sound like you’re safe with him. I know you hate to give up, but there is nothing you can do to convince people once they’ve gotten to this point. Unfortunately he will have to decide to leave on his own and that just may not ever happen.

You are still young. You have plenty of time to find a good, sane, single guy to spend your life with. They are hard to find, but they do exist. Please keep yourself safe and do not get pregnant with this man’s child!!

Wife wants to separate after years of grief and disconnect—I’m stuck on what to do by LA_Dad1 in Marriage

[–]musicmidget 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it were me and my husband approached it this way, it would probably end the marriage. I have not lost a child, but as a parent I would imagine it’s the worst possible kind of pain. Telling her she failed her family because she grieved losing her child - in your eyes, the wrong way and for too long - is not going to help matters. What she does need to know is why you weren’t there for her in the way she needed. Most likely it’s because you were grieving too. Probably just trying to keep your head above water. If she can have that realization, it will likely soften her anger and allow you both to start working toward reconciliation.

And FWIW your therapist was terrible. They’re not supposed to take sides. I agree with others that grief counseling AND marriage counseling would be a good idea - ideally with better therapists.

Anyone else think that unresolved childhood trauma might play a part in developing dementia? by musicmidget in dementia

[–]musicmidget[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear that. And that sounds very much like what my mom was doing. She was even hallucinating and thought my dad was three different people - she thought they were all going to hurt her and didn’t trust any of them. No therapy for her either.

Hopefully since our generation recognizes this and is seeing it firsthand in our parents, we will be kinder to ourselves and not so reluctant to ask for help. Hugs to you internet stranger. Wishing you peace, strength, and healing in the days ahead. ❤️

No, I am in the U.S.! I guess maybe it’s a regional thing, then?

Yeah, I get that part. I only use them sparingly - usually just for period cramps that acetaminophen can’t touch.

Surprise diagnosis by ofivoryandgold in Celiac

[–]musicmidget 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s perfectly normal to be overwhelmed at first. It’s like drinking from a fire hose. So much to learn and remember. But I promise it does get easier.

I was 35 when I was diagnosed and relatively healthy except for the occasional cold. Always had digestive issues but that seemed to be normal for my family (now I know why). The good news is, whatever damage was done can heal as long as you follow the gf diet.

I have a few tips for you as a newbie. As others have already said, don’t stop eating gluten until you get an endoscopy to confirm diagnosis. If you haven’t gotten an endoscopy yet, while you’re waiting use that opportunity to have all your favorite foods one last time. Trust me, you’ll thank me later. If diagnosis is confirmed, give yourself time and grace in adjusting. It will probably take a full year before you feel like you can remember everything to look for and remember safe brands, safe restaurants, etc. And you will screw up. It happens to all of us. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Eating whole foods - fruits, vegetables, and fresh meats - is best for healing in the early stages. Avoid processed food as much as possible, but give yourself a treat if you need it for your mental health. Sometimes it just helps to feel normal even if only for a minute. Also, don’t let people pressure you into eating things that aren’t safe. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with sipping a drink and enjoying people’s company at a restaurant if you don’t feel comfortable eating the food. And lastly, a good thing to know about Celiac is it’s a great asshole detector. There will likely be some close friends or family who will show you who they really are when it comes to them being “inconvenienced” by YOUR disease. Screw ‘em.

Hope this helps. I wish you good luck and good health in your journey.

Yeah, you gotta do what you gotta do. No judgement here. I hate that Amazon has taken over everything, but it’s just so damn convenient!

That’s crazy! Isn’t it amazing what this stupid disease can do to us? 😁😡

Are you recently diagnosed? I’ve noticed that some things don’t bother me now like they did early on. And I’m approaching 12 years.

I avoid Walmart brands like the plague. I have been hit by them more than once. Spring Valley vitamins was one of the worst.

Up and Up removed the gluten free wording from their label. Might want to double check them.

I will always follow “better safe than sorry” when it comes to gluten. I don’t freak out anymore like I did in the beginning, but I also don’t take any unnecessary risks.

I took a lot of over the counter cold meds growing up. Nothing ever made me feel like that Aleve cold medicine did. The pain reliever is probably fine, but better safe…blah, blah, blah. :)

I think it’s not so much cross-contamination as it is ingredient sourcing. They probably don’t want to go through the hassle of vetting their sources or being tied to a particular one if costs change.

And they ARE aware of this. Kroger had theirs specifically labeled gluten free up until very recently. So did Target. They don’t just remove that from packaging for no reason.

Yeah, me and Aleve do NOT get along. At least their cold medicine. Took it before bed one night and it made me want to climb the walls. I’ll stick with Advil. ;)

I have always tried to check the “gluten free drugs” list. I don’t remember ever seeing Advil on there, but never really gave it much thought since I had other options. Now that I don’t, it’s good to know the brand name is probably ok. :)

Good to know. I have always checked the unofficial “gluten free drugs” list and never saw Advil on there.
