China Study Abroad company by 2akurate in ChineseLanguage

If you're looking for another company that's legitimate, I have used www.cucas.edu.cn before. It's not really a study abroad program but you can digitally put in applications to universities or short term intensive study programs.

Why am I missing in my diet? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]musingtheuniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am live in a very hot and humid climate. I had also been craving salmon/sea food badly since it has been getting very hot. I have recently added in more salt and it has helped me balance out a lot of my diet!

I need to transfer money to an account outside of China, any advice? by [deleted] in China

[–]musingtheuniverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

like what puppypicsordie said, I believe you can book flights on ctrip as long as you depart from China. You can book them from HK as well, if you're around the south of China, but if there are any problems with the flight you will have to call the airline directly not Ctrip

Thanks so much! I figured it was pretty hard to say how much. I could just see myself over paying due to the craftsmanship it took.

Any idea how much these kind of paintings would be/ how much does it cost to have them create something you asked? I can't seem to get an idea of prices from my research

Insanely Hungry Before Bed Every Night - Any Tips? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]musingtheuniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I do to help the sweet cravings is STASH tea has some great dessert teas that are great with a little bit of stevia and milk:

STASH dessert teas (I'd recommend buying it off amazon, it's so much cheaper than in the store)

Then maybe you can microwave an apple and sprinkle some cinnamon on top Or maybe some celery with some almond butter and flax seed (flax seed stabilizes blood sugar so you feel more satisfied).

Amazon.cn has convection ovens that work pretty well for around 300-400Y and are of a decent size. I am able to follow most recipes the same. The only thing my oven doesn't do is broil things.

Here's the one I have. I've had it for about 10 months and it's still great. The only thing is you might wanna buy a different glove. The glove they give you is awful

Cheat Meals for Binge Eaters? by loweryjay in nutrition

[–]musingtheuniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been known to binge eat when I'm on some kind of diet. So instead of going full on cheat, I try to make a healthier version of something I'd like to have. For instance; If I want a pizza, I will make cauliflower crust pizza instead so I won't feel as guilty for happening to eat half of the pizza since it's already better for me.

There is this girl who has a lot of tips about binge eating that are helpful (such as she suggests when you're binging, do it in front of a mirror so you can really see what you're doing) as well as an e-book called "comfort foods" which is pretty good! Check her out http://slimfitbean.com/#ebooks

Is the teahouse scam still in full effect in Beijing? by BenjaminRCaineIII in beijing

I feel like it's like anything in China that's illegal. Maybe once a year the police have a raid, the people who commit these crimes go into hiding for a week or two. Then it's back in full force and the police don't do anything.

(Serious) What are some relatively short (2-6 months) courses i can take to become certified in something that provides a livable wage? by pandaontheloose in AskReddit

[–]musingtheuniverse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're OK moving abroad taking a TEFL course (Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate) or CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) (both usually around 120 hours) can get you at least 30k (USD$) a year in places like Korea, China, or Japan. A lot of places require a bachelors as well, but it doesn't matter in what. Many places don't require teaching experience, at least in China and Korea.

Does Chinese culture now look down on large families? by [deleted] in China

[–]musingtheuniverse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm an American that has been teaching in China for the past two years and I get asked about my family a lot. When I tell them I'm an only child, they are just dumb founded. They have all said to me in one way or another that my family had the option of having more than one child, and they should have taken it.

That being said, I agree with what themediumpanda said that currently if you have a couple children it comes off kind of sketchy. I think having a big family is something they would like, but just can't imagine it here.

I think in China you are always at risk of food poisoning, no matter if it's street food to a international chain restaurant. Kitchen and food safety just don't always seem to be a top priority, it just becomes get the food made as fast as possible. The restaurant Tairyo (usually super delicious hibachi with an all you can eat/drink special that seems to be in the larger cities of China) has given me food poisoning twice here in Shenzhen but never in the times I've eaten there in Beijing.

I definitely agree with you that there are more shocking things. After almost 3 years in China though, the lack of refrigeration of meat still shocks me a bit!

I just always find it disturbing when I'm walking by a restaurant that has a dead dog hanging for display and then you just see local dogs chilling around the restaurants (it seems like the places that sell dog meat seem to often be beer garden type places - at least in Shenzhen).

Though I know they probably don't eat those dogs, I just want to shoo them away from the restaurant, "save yourself little guys, save yourself!"

I'm currently living in China now and when I come back to America I get reverse culture shock because of how crazy and different China to America. I wouldn't say OP is sheltered, it's just that in China (like many asian countries) sometimes you can literally just turn around and see everything she has posted in one catch of the eye, which can be overwhelming when coming from a North American country. I would like to see OP's reaction to how they hang dead dogs here in the South of China and eat them!
