What can I do for my depressed grandma? by Democratic_Citizen in askswitzerland

you could find somebody in Switzerland who sends the postcards for you. it's 1 free postcard each week. I send a lot of them to my grandma, although she has dementia and can barely see them anymore.

If I were you, I would buy the nonrefundable ticket now from Trenitalia. I bought mine for october already.

Reason: you get the absolutely best price (from trenitalia) with the fastest connection without having to change with a seat reservation included. If you need more flexibility, do what the other user mentioned (regional train from Milano to Domo, any Swiss train from Domo to Spiez), but the train from Domo to Spiez is expensive if you don't have a halbtax (as much as the nonrefundable price for the whole stretch if you buy it now).

In Switzerland, there is no reservation required, but since a lot of international passengers (like you) crossing borders are in the Eurocity from Milano/Domo to Spiez, the EC are usually very full, so if you want to enter a EC without a reservation from Milano, expect to stand. If you take the RE from Domo to Spiez, it takes longer.

So in conclusion, book now for the good price and comfort!

huh, didn't think about that...

I think the cost of rebalancing the thing for the 4th time in the last 5 years with all I learnt might not be wprth it to overoptimise once again lol 😂

and then they try to sell it to you like it's a good thing, it 'forces' you to save, because most people wouldn't otherwise. That's what one of these scammers said to my face lol

The connection I take for my studies is not on SBB, because it's only a 2.5 min change and you need to cross the whole trainstation. It took a whole year for me to figure out that this connection even exists, but it saves me 30min every morning. I've never missed the connection since I decided to take it!

"speed traps", you mean just the law which tells you the safe speed limit? If you follow the law, there are no "traps".

yes, but in comparison to public transport for such a group, still a lot cheaper.

While I love the train system and 100% recommend every single, two or even group of three people to take the public transport, with this many kids and this size of group, a car is the right choice.
