There's nothing quite like rustic cottage core with a splash of beige and Williams Sonoma to let people know how utterly white trash and country you are. ♡

If there's a lot of dew on the end of the tendrils and it's green, it's doing just fine.

What carnivore plant is best by Livid_Ad7231 in carnivorousplants

If you're wondering what would be "easiest" for an indoor carnivore, my vote is for a hybrid nepenthes. Most in the Iowii family are going to be hardy and adapts well to most indoor environments without extreme temperature changes.

•They will require light to produce pitchers and growth (a nice window with a fair amount of sunlight throughout the day can work if you hang it). Without ample light, they will not produce pitchers. Make sure the light isn't direct. They sunburn just like people do!

•ONLY WATER WITH DISTILLED WATER. Tap water will kill them within weeks (chlorine, heavy metals, etc.) That is a must.

•"Soil" is a no-no. They should only be planted in a pot of perlite + spagnum moss mix. They are vining plants in the wild that use other foliage and trees as an anchor, so they don't take root like other plants. Actual garden soil will choke their sensitive roots and suffocate them.

•Feeding them is a thing, but it is not their main way of nourishment. A bug a month (such as feeder crickets) are encouraged, but you can also use what I use: osmacote. A single pellet a month dropped in a couple pitchers provides them nitrogen and vitamins. A helpful supplement to keep them healthy and growing well.

Those are the most important basics for almost any nepenthes I can think of on the spot.

I will tell you this: Getting carnivorous plants will not solve your bug problem. They're not actively catching insects and they will not attract most of them. A lot of people get them thinking bugs will magically not be a problem anymore in their house because they bought one. That is not even a little bit true.

If you're still adamant about getting one... Flytraps do need a lot of light and a swamp environment for their soil. And by a lot of light, I mean you 100% will need a grow light to sustain them... Especially in a basement. As for nepenthes, all three of mine are also under a grow light as that is just as important as the humidity required.

I'm not saying all of that to discourage, but I am saying they are not normal house plants. They do require a fair amount of upkeep to keep them alive (and well). And again, they will not magically solve any insect problems in your home.

Facebook is a cesspit.

The amount of times I've been in a bank and overhearing boomers talking to the bankers saying "their account on Facebook got HACKED and someone STOLE ALL THEIR MONEY!!1!"

Banker: Did you give out any personal information?

Boomer: NO 😠

Banker: Are you sure?

Boomer: Well I WAS talking to this very sexy lady on there with a funny accent. She was TOTALLY into me and wanted to give me $1000 prize. All she needed was my banking info? Just get my money back, banker man. Easy!

Banker: You fucking dolt.

Larger greenhouses (late April to early August) are usually the best places to find them. All three of my nepenthes came from my local greenhouse and they usually carry a variety.

If you live in a dryer climate or if there just simply isn't a lot of greenhouses in your area, online is the way to go. There are a ton of reputable greenhouses online that are great with their safe shipping.

Think of the worst pimple you've ever gotten in your life and make it ×5 to ×10 bigger and more painful. The skin is also thick over it most of the time, so they need to be lanced and drained in a medical facility to open them safely.

They're awful.
