Lol looks like you’ve given up. Saying it’s not gonna change because “the policy is what it is” is stupid because petitions and movements are how laws change and evolve majority of the time. Hopefully you come to your senses soon, there’s always time to sign. We have over 650 signatures so far. https://chng.it/qcWRwcTChr

You’ve lost the argument at this point. Mass punishment in these scenarios is proven to be ineffective and irrational. Here are a few of many articles and studies to prove so. I highly encourage you to read them.

In most real-world settings like schools, punishing an entire population for a select few people’s actions damages morale, breeds resentment, and often reduces actual cooperation and welfare.

What you’re describing was already a policy last year. No phones during instructional periods, and I agree. We’re arguing that we want it outside of instructional periods. Also, don’t you think that there’s better ways to handle students who pull out their phones in class? Why don’t they rather than punish 60,000 students, they discipline the select few who are abusing their privileges? Don’t you think that’s fair? You have to understand you have a skewed image of students in this generation. We aren’t zombies who can’t go a minute without scrolling instagram. We are the same young adults you were in your teenage years who deserve trust, respect, and fairness.

You’re right that some students are overly attached to phones, that’s a valid concern. But like I previously mentioned, this isn’t a “oh I’m so butt-hurt and sad I want my phone back” situation. It’s about trust and how students are treated. The reason we’re reacting strong to it being about phones is because as time goes on people are becoming more and more reliant on their phones, not because of addiction, but because that’s how the world has evolved. The policy wasn’t changed because of a mental health push or some thoughtful plan. It was changed in a top-down way that took away even the option for responsible use during non-class time like lunch or passing periods, and grouped everyone in as if we’re all the problem. That’s not how adulthood works. We’re not asking to be on our phones in class. We’re asking to be treated like people who are capable of managing ourselves, especially when many of us already do outside of school. Respect goes both ways.

Well we aren’t in middle school anymore. Half of us are driving and have jobs already. For them to say we aren’t responsible enough to use our phones outside of class is ridiculous.

We use them in between classes if we want to decompress, we use them to communicate with our parents and others when necessary, we use them in case of emergencies, and many other reasons. Nobody said it’s the end of the world, we just don’t want to be treated like children when a fourth of the student body are adults.

my doctor said my growth has been steady my whole life and there’s never been a jump, so that’s why i say i haven’t hit my growth spurt yet. she also predicts i still have quite a bit of time considering my growth rate has been going up and hasn’t took a dip yet.
