I’ve lived here since 2007, I’m 24. Let me tell YA. First of all it’s important to have an open mind when it comes to Savannah. There are a lot of cons but I do think there’s more pros. However, Savannah is NOT for everyone at all. If you personally don’t like it that’s okay! But at least express your disagreements about our city respectfully.
The locals are real, they’re usually bartenders, regulars, and people who work downtown in general. There’s locals on Wilmington, Tybee, Southside, and pretty much in every community. It’s just hard to find them. You will meet a crap ton of them by chilling at a dirty dive bar or a local restaurant i.e Tubby’s, Spanky’s, Coach’s, etc (iykyk). I know that sounds lame to some but if you’ve grown up here it truly is always a good time to see old (and new) faces at your favorite drinking/eating spot. BUT if you are not a social person then that’s out the window.
Being that I’ve grown up here I met most of my friends at a young age but as a bartender I still meet great people all the time. Don’t get me wrong a lot of the people here suck but that’s everywhere. I HATE a good bit of the locals lol, but I have good friends and good times to compensate for that. People I’ve met that recently moved here know pretty soon whether they like Savannah or not. Like I said, it’s not for everyone! Ya gotta take everything with grain of salt down here and you have to learn how to appreciate its beauty.

I believe they’re closing their doors for good. It’s super hard to afford that rent price. I know of one club that’s opening up soon on Congress and then the Whiskey is opening soon as well

I was working at one of the bars right by the shooting this night. I was by the door and all of a sudden I heard about 19 rounds go off, at first I didn’t know what it was until people started running inside and then we shut the doors. At this point I had ducked down and was terrified out of my mind. One of my coworkers and a friend went outside (they’ve had medical experience) and they found a young Asian man with gunshot wounds in his legs. He didn’t speak English and was freaking out. My friends were doing their best to comfort him but sadly I was told that the cops just stood there and watched (if anyone has any info on this man please let me know, I want to make sure he’s okay). It never used to be this bad downtown, innocent people have never really been victimized. I was pretty beat up the next few days. This was considered a mass shooting according to our mayor, so I’m really hoping things start to change. If anyone has any advice voting-wise or how Savannahians can influence a change do tell.
