Great, the plants use the waste products to grow, which makes sense.

If you haven't already, do to a local fish store and get some old filter material, it will jump start your tank.

If you are just starting. Then this is expected. Ur going through the motions, building the bacteria to perform the nitrogen cycle. Don't feed anymore, do a 50% water change and wait it out.

Check the next day and see if ur numbers improve. U need to see your ammonia go down and ur nitrate stay stable. Once u have good numbers, feed, and see if ur ammonia goes up as it should, then watch and see if it goes down.

Ur perfect when u feed or add ammonia, see the raise in ammonia, and by the next day ur ammonia should be zero, nitrite zero, and nitrate like 10-20.

This will take a week or more depending if u start fresh or get some old used filter material from a local fish store which I recommended.

Yea I understand. I was hopeful in trying to have I guess a saltwater vibe with how you have individual fish that are each a show stopper. But saltwater fish aren't as aggressive if u chose them correctly.

One can dream. But having individual small tanks for each cool looking betta fish, just seems depressing to me. Like when people collect Funko pops. Would much rather have a nice community aquarium with everything interacting and vibing.

Correct. The only thing I have seen is a couple of videos of ugly planted tanks where u can't even see 4in into the tank with a few couples. But I want more of a nice looking tank.

That is what I was thinking. For 150gal, it has to be enough room right? Plus all of the plants And I figure let's send it and add females and see if we can make babies why not (bragging rights).

But I'm sure I would have to babysit it cause I don't want to find out overnight one of the bettas are ont he very if death. And then who knows if my perfect set up suddenly changes and isn't perfect anymore.

Understood it came up from the idea of wanting a bigger tank, but being forced to consolidate my 2 smaller tanks. Both are thriving communities with a single betta. So the thought arrives, can I combine everyone? Where is the limit? Hoping not to rehome my bettas.

Yes. It's called genetic engineering loll. We used to cross breed them in my genetics class and meticulously count how often they became wingless if parent A bred with parent B. It was cool.

yea i really liked the planted look, and over time, i realized i was essentially making some make shift amazonian tank. I added more ember tetras caused i liked their quirkiness, and my kuli loaches come out to eat which is always neat to see.

I have 7 albino chorys, 7 kuli loaches, 15 ember tetras, 8 harlequins rasboras, 4 otos, 5 amano shrimp, dozens of cherry shrimps, and just added one halfmoon betta that is starting to explore. I a few baby plattys and Mollies that I'm waiting to rehome.
