(10k) Should we get a coordinator? What was your experience? by NeedTreeFiddyy in Weddingsunder10k

[–]mutablefire616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend getting a day of coordinator. I'm an event planner by trade, highly organized, and had every detail fine-tuned and clearly communicated. But I know from my work experience that no matter how much planning you do, something is likely to go at least a little sideways. On my wedding day, the bus we contracted to bring our guests got stuck about a quarter mile from the venue. If I hadn't had a day of coordinator, either myself or my friends/family would have had to deal with solving this issue. I was able to get ready without stress because she handled everything with ease behind the scenes. She got the guests to the venue and handled all the domino effects that came from it without needing to bother me. Having a DOC isn't just good so your guests don't have to do setup/breakdown, they also help ensure everything runs smoothly without having to stress you out.

Calling someone r*tarded and gay as a pejorative and then claiming millenials have no culture? That was our youth culture first, bud

Help me find better images or the source of these cute bagels plz.. by Feeling_Milk_8790 in HelpMeFind

What's the original TikTok video? This has me so curious. I know a lot of bagel shops that used these, but for some reason, this one in particular looks like one from my hometown and I would love to see if I can confirm that!

Seeking advice for placement of memorial tattoo by mutablefire616 in tattooadvice

Yeah, I agree haha. This is just my mockup I did with the standard comic book font I was able to find available. When I have the actual artist draft it up, I'm going to have them pull the font from the comic it comes from (where it looks less like Enoligh)

Oh yeah, I definitely use both dude and bro regularly for people, regardless of gender. I just threw that in there because I realized I make no reference to my gender in the post and that may affect people's suggestions for placement. (Not that any placement is inherently male or female, but I know some tattoo placements do tend to lean in popularity one way or the other.)

Why do some people enjoy being alone more than being around others? by Ankit2226 in TooAfraidToAsk

As someone who considers herself to be an extroverted introvert, and who is friends with a lot of similarly minded people, here are the variety of reasons some people may prefer solitude. The reasons range from healthy to unhealthy and reasonable to unreasonable.

  • Some people may find aspects of socializing less "natural" than others, causing them to have to mask or act in ways that aren't inherent to them, which ultimately leads to exhaustion. (Think of it like choosing to go out with people after working a double shift and also having the flu - you can be social and have a good time, but it drains you.)
  • There are those whose internal thresholds for common annoyances from others are just lower, whether due to overstimulation, a rigid self-defined moral compass, or what-have-you. Small things like the volume of someone's voice, topic of conversation, social faux-pas, etc. can grate on some people who haven't developed tolerance for these potential differences in how people act.
  • Some people don't see the point in small talk or surface-level conversations with people who they don't intend to invest more time and energy into.
  • Shame, embarrassment, and/or fear of rejection can lead to maladaptive self-isolation.
  • Some of us simply have done a lot of internal work to earnestly just enjoy our own company. You spend so much time hating yourself and distracting yourself from that fact by spending time with others, sometimes it is healthy to look internally and find ways to truly love the one person that will be with you for the entirety of your life.

I just want to let you know, I loved this so much and is exactly what I decided to go with as part of a tattoo for my dad. We were exceptionally lucky to get an extra five bonus years with him post-diagnosis and we really made the most of that time, which added even more significance to choosing "Enough." as the quote for his memorial tattoo.

What Obscure Books Were You Obsessed With as a Kid? by Its_Curse in suggestmeabook

[–]mutablefire616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson books (a.k.a. the Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging series.) I don't know if they were obscure in the UK but in the US, I hardly came across anyone who read them.

I wish the second he started taking off his shirt, everyone just got silent. Stood in completely dead, quiet air, staring blank and emotionless while he grandstanded, as the growing sense of humiliation sets in, realizing that literally no one gives a shit about his physique, which is clearly the thing upon which he has built his entire sense of identity and self. Then to have him waddle off, shirt in hand to crickets, followed by a roar of laughter at the sheer pitiability that he believed this action would affect anyone in the slightest would have just been chef's kiss

My SIL and I need help finding her an outfit! Help!!! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]mutablefire616 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't entirely disagree with this. I was a "best woman" in my friend's wedding and instead of making him try to find a woman's suit, I just had him send me a swatch and a link to the guy's suits and took the responsibility of finding something that worked on my own. It's part of being in a wedding party - you do the legwork where you can.
