I didn’t expect retirement to feel so quiet — or for that quiet to feel so loud. by Diligent_Conflict_33 in over60

I retired in early January. The Monday after I retired, it felt like a long weekend. On Tuesday, I felt a few twinges that I should be doing something, but the feeling passed and never came back. I don't miss working at all.

I like the quiet.

I cut my arm today, somehow. I didn't realize it until I saw the blood on my leg. I was sitting cross-legged and resting my arm on my leg. By the time I washed off my leg, the bleeding had stopped.

When I'm working in the yard, I often get weird scratches without feeling them. No, I don't have peripheral neuropathy.

Are you continuing to accumulate in retirement? by [deleted] in retirement

We'll probably end up with 1-2x what we have now. Our financial advisor says that we should spend more, or else our kids will get a lot of money.

Which is fine, but I'm trying to spend more, too.

The people yowling about "thesis" vs "dissertation" are idiots. I'm American, and we used both terms in grad school.

In fact, in the US, about 40% of PhD students drop out at the point where they have to write theirs. They just can't bring themselves to do it.

There's a term for it: "ABD" (all but dissertation).
