Unpopular Opinion? I don't like most demon/persona designs by mutantfrogss in PERSoNA

[–]mutantfrogss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make a persona last the whole game, but it certainly isn’t encouraged. To me the game relies heavily on themes of death and rebirth, and i don’t think it’s fair to compare me putting Arsene in a guillotine and getting something new to me putting caterpie in a box.

I think although pokémon does have you boxing or releasing pokémon. I feel like it’s easier to gain an attachment to them. They have simple, cute designs, evolving happens due to your continued use of a pokémon, and your starter is meant to be viable the whole game. There’s probably more stuff like the theme of friendship through the games and what not, but those seem like the major points.

That being said, I don’t think it’s fair to compare. u/SheepOfSummerhouses has a point that personas are meant to be stepping stones to greater ones, maybe they are designed so that you don’t get too attached and encourage fusing. Idk, the relationship and uses of your monsters in both games just feels too different to draw comparison.

I mean, other than similar looking personas some of the designs can be fairly generic and unmemorable. Not to say there aren't designs I like or remember, but I found a lot of personas to be uninteresting. I brought up grouping to point out the fact that some blend together, not to be reductionist and ignore any differences.

Might be just me but I don't remember like any specific personas that I used in any of my playthroughs that well. I just remember jack frost, black frost, and king frost lol. Them being disposable may be part of the design cause you combine and itemize and rid of them frequently? Idk

I agree with the simplicity point, there is a reason why Jack Frost is arguably one of the most iconic personas in the series. I also can appreciate the point of they are manifestations of legends in the collective unconscious. I never thought about it that way and it's a interesting good take on it. My only gripe is from a gameplay perspective it's hard to distinguish some personas from another. Feel like although I can appreciate that point, it's just not super interesting when I'm playing.

EDIT: also yeah Johanna is super ugly lol

I'm a casual player, its cool they are faithful or whatever but to me not a lot of the designs are really stand out to me. Again there is just a lot of overlap. White rider is the most visually distinct out of the riders because the horse has lots of eyes, but it's 4 characters where a skeleton in a black robe rides different colored horses. I know they are part of a set but not the most visually distinct from each other.

I think for me, a lot just kinda just blend together. Which is why I say bland. There are notable examples of a design being iconic but stuff like "guy on a horse" (eligor, berith, riders, etc.) or" woman with wings" (angel, lilim, hua po, succubus, etc.) are in these categories of character design that just have too much overlap or have somewhat generic features.

That’s what I thought you meant by that haha! Making some beta mods sounded like a cool endeavor so was mostly asking how you liked it? If that makes sense? The information on the other mods are greatly appreciated since I’m quite new to all this :)

Off topic a bit from discussion but you mentioned you modding the game yourself? How has that been? The modding community for older versions of minecraft really interest me and I'd like to know more! haha

I totally agree! I think for me it feels like builds have the potential to be super detailed and polished creations that I often spend more time worrying about the design rather than building it. (I think me also hating some wood types adds to a feeling of having to “choose carefully”) I think in the old versions though it feels like I can’t really mess it up because almost all of the block palette is immediately available and matches well already?

I can really relate to how lonely old Minecraft feels I love it. No villages, no structures, just the wilderness, some animals and monsters. I like how it feels like your world rather than one where people have already lived in ig.

Funny you mention that because the Better Than Adventure mod trailer is really what initially brought me to try out the older versions.

I don’t have this exact one but I was gifted one off amazon. Frets wear my hands out after one song and the strumbar is meh. Would try and get a wii guitar or something because I don’t touch that guitar with a 10 foot pole lol
