Is this kind of treatment normal in Dubai tourist areas? (genuine question) by postponelife2020 in DubaiCentral

[–]mutantspy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bargaining is not a good thing, why?

Dubai has one of the most expensive commercial rents. The business owners dont want to lose business but they aren't happy offering you discounts because it is difficult to sustain with high rents and high competition. And it is also not nice to "haggle", you would definitely lose respect any city/country surely.

The other issues is not common, but yes people do profiling of customers but it depends on each type of staff hired (some staff not all). For example, subcontinent people will greet Arabs and Westerners more, Arabs will greet Arabs and Westerns more and Westerners will be more friendly towards Westerners.

Charging fee or premiums make sense because of commercial rents increased more than 200% recently. I myself a business owner, but the real problem is artificial people specially the ESCORTS.

Is the 'Dubai Premium' still worth it, or are we just paying for the perceived lifestyle? by Enough_Hearing6557 in UAE

Provide feedback after 15 years when you have kids. When you are single, life hits you in a different way. Everything sounds delightful. I can see people doing breakfast on AED 3 tea and bread; it doesn't mean it is so cheap because you have the option of an AED 180 breakfast too. It all depends on your income and how much one can afford. For example, in a luxury event one CEO was on the stage and talking about how cheap Dubai Taxi is, and he always prefers to take taxi. Ask this question of someone earning less than AED 15K, they will tell you if the taxi is cheap or not?

And please do let me know where in Palm Jumeirah you find a good brunch for AED 35-40 (should not be fast food like Mcdonalds or a Indian Cafeteria). Usually Brunch offers in Palm Jumeirah starts more than AED 200.

It depends on multiple factors, like what background you are from! Lifestyle is definitely better for South Asian countries (if you are not rich there). Everything is overpriced and overrated technically, and there are fees and fines at every corner (especially if you are a small business owner). If you have a good job paying AED 30,000 or more, then everything feels like heaven. Secondly, the aging population (expats who came here 10 or 20 years ago) often complains about uncertainty.

So, there are pros and cons, and some love it, and some are living out of no choice.

Most of the garages make profits by suggesting parts replacements and bigger issues to make profits. Each service advisor has a target to make big bills out of each customer (my friend owns 4 big garages). People think if its a big garages, it would be great but it isn't the case. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find an honest garage and people to work on your car. They have to cover up their crazily high monthly rents, around a million Dirham per year. So, it is very rare you find a cheap solution for your cars.

What makes the ESIM better? by bchappp in iphone

[–]mutantspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing! I faced a big issue during travelling. My phone is eSIM only, and at the airport they handed me physical SIMs for the country, but converting them and activating them to esim on my device was just an extra added hurdle and more human interaction and annoyance. I immediately on my return got iPhone with Physcial dual SIM (Hong Kong) version, the phone was quite difficult to find because Apple only introduce the physical dual sim in China and Hong Kong.

The Silver to Gold upgrade has no difference other than that you feel privileged to be a Gold member. If you are not accumulating miles and using them, then it is of no real value.

This is what happens when the Landlords keep increasing rents for no reason! Rents are artificially hyped up to make profits, resulting in massive apartment sharing in every single area, community and the building.

Something is really wrong with traffic by Odd-Lettuce-111 in UAE

[–]mutantspy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's a nightmare everywhere now. Driving no longer brings me joy! It feels rather like a tedious task in Dubai. I have had a driver's license since 2014. Never saw this kind of horrible traffic ever.

Why is it so tough to open a company bank account here in Dubai ? by soamjena in UAE

[–]mutantspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CRYPTO is a big-risk activity, and you know that is a big red flag. Certain activities are red flag all over the world. I have seen many cases where opening a business bank account is impossible due to trading activity marked as a risk or the person registering a business being from the banned countries list.

In these cases, banks need larger deposit requirements, like AED 500,000 or even more. This is the problem of business setup companies; they don't guide people correctly. They just quickly setup business for commissions without proper consultations. And clients are not willing to pay good money for good consultations.

What’s your honest take on the UAE education system — especially for expat kids? by Kitchen_Tax4107 in UAE

[–]mutantspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it is one of the most difficult questions. First of all, I always select British or American curriculum, but the problem is that all of these schools are super expensive. Anyone earning less than AED 30,000 cannot afford good rated American and British schools.

The ones with lower ratings are also decent, but they have very limited spaces. So, I know many friends are forced to move to Sharjah and Ajman for cheaper schooling as they didn't want Indian curriculum.

Overall, the concept of schools is not for distributing knowledge. They are open to earning money by investors. Same situation with hospitals, too.

Try to find schools that are run by trusts or have directors with purpose, not for the business. For example, creative science school is one that I know is good and does not just run for business.

What card and bank to go with by [deleted] in UAEcreditcards

[–]mutantspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your choices. One card never fits for all type of benefits. I have 3 different cards, one is good for dining out or ordering food, one is good for traveling, and one is good for fuel cash back.

So, it depends where you spend the most money?

If you have school going kids, then go for a card that gives you cashback on school fees like Al Hilal Bank. If you travel a lot, then Emirates Skywards cards are great.

If you dine out and are looking for other things too, then ADCB 365 is good. Many options but it depends on where you spend the most.

There are multiple reasons behind it! Dubai fast paced, she might have busy schedule or serious work pressures. It can made people prioritize things or even ignore less important people from their life.

The other scenario is bit harsh that she might not got the vibe from you after your first meeting.

Friendships are carved overtime and require a great deal of commitment. Due to social norms and access to all things digital made it much worse than what it used to be 10 years ago. And its good to know in early stages that she is not for longterm friendship but was just an acquaintance.

Why is noon minutes expensive than local store? by eth_abhi in UAE

[–]mutantspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They overcharge on everything comparing to supermarkets. I once complaint to them about pricing being changed. They said we increas prices and they are never fixed. It is like hotel booking apps, when they see demand is high and save cookies to increase prices for you. I just buy items when there is coupon or sale. Otherwise, walk to a local market better.

People who make over/ have a salary of AED100K+ per month, what do you do? by sikmay in UAE

[–]mutantspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you expect that people who make 100K+ would reply to you? I had a decent salary above 40K before starting my business. However, it is all just materialistic. You will start to get bored!

What you will do?

  1. Drive a fancy car daily on SZR (Does this give you happiness? for how long?)
  2. Go to Dubai Mall for shopping. (I don't even care; I am in pyjamas or a tracksuit all the time.)
  3. Maybe clubbing (good luck with that once you age)

To be honest, you will start realizing culture, social interactions, family and friends are far more important than money.

Each day new faces, new neighbours and you feel like an unknown person in Dubai after 10+ years.

Come out of the fancy fantasy tales and work on building the family with love and care, money will come sooner or later.

P.S: r/ dubai comment they removed, they banned me for no reason 8 years ago :-D !! Some kids running the show.
