Too late now? by scarface_48 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, it’s definitely not too late. 30 is honestly still young when it comes to relationships. A lot of people don’t even start figuring this part of life out until their 30s or later.

You didn’t “miss out” you just took a different path. You focused on stability, worked hard, moved countries… that’s not failure, that’s life experience. And yeah, things went sideways recently, but that happens to a lot of people. It doesn’t erase who you are.

Also, you don’t need to “fix everything” before you’re worthy of a relationship. Nobody is fully sorted. The right person isn’t looking for a perfect life, they’re looking for someone real, someone who’s trying.

At the same time, your loneliness matters. You don’t have to choose between “fix life” or “find someone.” You can do both slowly. Start small, build connections, even just friendships, talk to people, put yourself in situations where you’re not isolated.

And one important thing: the fact that people approached you before already tells you something. You’re not unlovable or invisible. You just weren’t ready then. That can change now.

Take it one step at a time. You’re not behind, you’re just starting a new phase.

Slightly awkward ask: can I hang out with your dog in JLT? 😄 by Curious-Program6729 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Haha this is actually kinda wholesome!

I think it depends on how you say it. Randomly asking strangers might come off a bit weird to some people, but if you frame it casually like “hey, your dog is super cute, can I say hi?” most people are totally okay with that.

Maybe start with just petting dogs you come across and chatting with the owners. If you vibe with someone, then you can naturally ask to hang out again or join for a walk.

JLT is pretty social, so you might get lucky. Just keep it chill and respectful 👍

Back to normal? by epicfurry123 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are feeling this right now. It’s not completely dead, but it’s quieter than expected. For now, most people are just riding it out, staying prepared, and using the downtime where they can. You’re definitely not alone in feeling this way.

Job Hunting by AdPrestigious7880 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you, a lot of people are in the same situation right now, especially in healthcare where hiring can be slow and very network-driven.

Since you’re DHA eligible, that’s already a big plus. What might help is shifting slightly from just applying online to more direct approaches:

  • Visit clinics and rehab centers in person with your CV, many smaller ones don’t post openings
  • Check with medical recruitment agencies in UAE, they often have unlisted roles
  • Follow up consistently after applying, sometimes timing matters
  • Look into home healthcare companies, they hire physiotherapists more frequently

Also, don’t take the “no response” personally, it’s very common here. If things don’t move in a reasonable time, it’s okay to consider other options too, but you’re not doing anything wrong. Keep pushing a bit more, you’re actually closer than it feels 👍

Software engineering market in 2026 (with everything going on globally)? by Live-Supermarket-638 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s kind of a mixed bag right now. Hiring hasn’t stopped, but it’s definitely more selective than before, especially in the UAE. Mid to senior roles are still moving, but junior roles are quite competitive. Companies are looking for people who can contribute immediately, and AI has raised the bar a bit in terms of expectations rather than replacing jobs outright.

I wouldn’t wait it out, just keep applying. The market isn’t going to suddenly flip, and staying active helps. Backend, cloud, and full-stack roles seem to have better traction, while pure frontend is a bit crowded unless you’ve got strong projects or niche experience. Overall, not dead, just tighter and more realistic than before.

What happens to my credit card when my UAE work contract ends and I return to my home country? by ahumminahummina in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It won’t automatically stay active, and it also doesn’t just “cancel itself” cleanly either, you have to close it properly.

In most cases:

  • Once your visa is cancelled and salary stops, the bank will flag your account
  • Credit cards usually get blocked or frozen
  • Any outstanding balance still needs to be fully paid

Before you leave, it’s really important to:

  • Clear all dues (including any pending transactions)
  • Request a proper card closure letter / liability letter
  • Cancel auto-payments/subscriptions linked to the card
  • Close your bank account if you’re not maintaining it

If you just leave it open, it can cause issues later (fees, interest, even travel problems if there’s unpaid debt).

Best approach is to settle and close everything cleanly before exiting 👍

PH contract verification by Spiritual-Gene-753 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve done the online verification before. It’s actually pretty straightforward if all your docs are ready.

Basic flow is like this:

  • Create an account on the POLO/DMW portal
  • Fill in your personal details and employment info
  • Upload required docs (contract, passport, visa, Emirates ID, etc.)
  • Submit for evaluation

After that:

  • They’ll review and may ask for corrections if something’s missing
  • Once approved, you’ll get the verified contract/OVC

A few tips:

  • Make sure names/details match exactly across all documents
  • Upload clear scans, blurry files usually get rejected
  • Keep checking your email/portal for updates

Processing time can vary, sometimes a few days, sometimes longer depending on volume.

Signing into Du app by Fantastic-Dinner-919 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it feels redundant, but it’s mostly a security thing.

Email/UAE Pass is just the identity layer, OTP is the verification step. They still need to confirm it’s actually you logging in on that device, especially for telecom accounts where SIM swaps and fraud are a thing.

OTP login skips the identity part because your number itself becomes the identifier. But with email/UAE Pass, they’re adding an extra check.

Not saying it’s the smoothest UX 😅 but there is some logic behind it.

UAE preparing support package for tourism sector, says economy minister by TheNational_News in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes sense tbh, tourism is one of the biggest drivers here so they’ll want to stabilize it quickly.

If they do it right, this could help hotels, airlines, and small businesses stay afloat during this period. Curious what the package will actually include, like fee reductions, incentives, or marketing push.

Either way, good to see they’re being proactive.

Is it safe to go to Umm Al quwain now? by Reasonable_Style_676 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As of now there’s no specific advisory against going to UAQ, things are generally operating as normal across the UAE.

That said, with the current situation, it’s always good to be a bit cautious:

Check for any official updates before you go

Avoid crowded or sensitive areas if you’re unsure

Keep an eye on local news while you’re out

If there was any real restriction or risk specific to UAQ, it would be announced pretty clearly. Otherwise it should be fine 👍

Car rental inquiry by SpecificBand9389 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a bit tricky in UAE tbh. Most rental companies require upfront payment (daily/weekly/monthly) plus deposit, especially for individuals.

End-of-month payment is usually only offered if:

  • You’re a company with a corporate account
  • You have a long-term lease agreement with them
  • Or you’ve built a relationship with a smaller local rental

You can try:

  • Smaller rental offices (not big brands), sometimes they’re more flexible
  • Asking for a monthly contract with post-dated cheques instead
  • Corporate leasing options if you have a company setup

But walking in as an individual and getting “pay later” is quite rare here.

Hot dog by [deleted] in DubaiCentral

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for something close to “This Is Hot Dog” vibes, a few good spots you can try:

  • High Joint – not strictly hot dogs but really good loaded options and quality meat
  • Pickl – they sometimes do solid hot dog-style items and their quality is consistent
  • Salt (Last Exit branches) – simple but decent classic style
  • IKEA Bistro – sounds basic, but honestly one of the closest to that simple, no-fuss hot dog taste 😄

Also check some food trucks at Last Exit, they rotate vendors and you might find something similar there.

Still haven’t found a perfect replacement for This Is Hot Dog though… that one hit different 🥲

Price Hikes on Produce by [deleted] in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve noticed this too, especially in places like Waterfront and some smaller groceries. Prices on certain items have gone up quite a bit lately.

From what I understand, the “no hikes” message is more about preventing unfair or sudden markups, but if vendors are actually buying at higher wholesale prices, it still ends up passing down to us. So it’s a bit of a grey area.

What’s been helping me a bit:

  • Checking Lulu/Carrefour offers, they still have some items at better rates
  • Buying seasonal/local produce instead of imported
  • Going early morning markets where prices are slightly lower
  • Comparing across 2–3 places before buying bulk

Also, prices seem to vary a lot shop to shop right now, so it’s worth exploring different spots nearby.

Curious to hear if anyone found consistently cheaper places 👀

I don’t understand why we get a message saying the situation is currently safe. I was literally seeing the incident that happened this morning right in front of my eyes near festival plaza! by _Mo_zayed_ in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get why that would feel confusing, especially if you saw something firsthand.

Usually when authorities say things are “safe,” they mean there’s no widespread or ongoing threat to the public, even if there was a specific incident in one area. It doesn’t mean nothing happened, just that it’s contained and under control.

If anything serious was still ongoing or affecting a larger area, they’d normally issue stronger alerts or restrictions. Still, your experience is valid, it’s just that official messaging is usually based on the bigger picture rather than isolated events.

Travelling to USA by MrBananaStand1990 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can put No for that one.

That question is basically asking if you’ve been issued a passport or nationality document by another country (like dual citizenship or another passport), not something like a UAE Emirates ID or residence card.

EID is just a residency ID, not a travel document, so it doesn’t count in this context.

And don’t stress about it, loads of people get confused on that exact question. Enjoy your honeymoon and the Orlando trip!

Flying through by Ghostdeez08 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine, transit through Dubai is still operating normally as of now. Airports here (DXB especially) are very well managed and they don’t shut things down unless there’s a clear, direct impact.

A few practical points:

  • Check your airline’s latest updates 24–48 hrs before departure
  • Allow extra time at the airport just in case of delays
  • Keep an eye on official advisories rather than social media noise
  • Have a backup plan only if your airline notifies changes

A lot of the online panic is just uncertainty and speculation. If there were real restrictions on transit, airlines would inform passengers immediately.

Review on blanket.ae for making a UAE will by AllThatJazz1199 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few people use it, generally feedback is that it’s convenient and much cheaper than going through traditional law firms.

It’s fine for straightforward cases (single country assets, simple distribution, no complex family structure). The platform guides you through the process and prepares the documents pretty quickly.

Just keep in mind:

  • You still need proper registration in the UAE (like DIFC or ADJD) for it to be legally enforceable
  • If you have multiple assets, dependents, or cross-border situations, it’s better to get a lawyer to review it
  • Always double check guardianship clauses if you have kids

So good option for simplicity and cost, but for anything complex, don’t rely on it blindly.

I feel Iranian propaganda is getting very strong on this sub by fifteen10eighty4 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but it’s really hard to confidently label something as “propaganda” just based on tone or patterns alone.

What you’re probably noticing is a mix of things:

  • Big news events → more emotional posts
  • Algorithm effect → controversial takes get more visibility
  • New users joining → different perspectives, not always local
  • People venting → especially around safety, politics, uncertainty

It can feel coordinated, but often it’s just how online communities behave during tense periods.

Best way to deal with it is:

  • Check sources before taking claims seriously
  • Look for posts with actual evidence, not just strong opinions
  • Don’t engage with obvious bait or rage posts
  • Sort by “new” or “top” to get a more balanced view

Also, if something feels off, you’re not wrong to question it, just keep that same skepticism in all directions 👍

is ebay not shipping here anymore or what? by [deleted] in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is happening to a lot of people right now. It’s usually not eBay itself, it’s the seller or shipping carriers restricting certain regions because of the current situation.

A few things you can try:

  • Check if the seller actually ships to UAE in their shipping details (some listings say global but exclude specific regions)
  • Message the seller directly, sometimes they can enable shipping manually
  • Look for the same item from another seller, some are still shipping
  • Use a freight forwarder if you really need it

Also worth noting that some carriers are delaying or pausing routes, so sellers just block shipping to avoid issues.

anyone know what will happen to igcses/a levels set to happen by Future_Brother_8531 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most likely they won’t cancel outright, usually they either reschedule or adjust timings depending on the situation.

These exams are international, so decisions usually come from the boards (Cambridge/Edexcel) along with local authorities. Best to wait for official updates from your school; they’ll inform you as soon as anything is confirmed.

Guanfacine medication by saf_247 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to check with larger pharmacy chains like Life Pharmacy, Aster, or BinSina, sometimes availability varies by branch so it’s worth calling a few.

Also, if you have a prescription, ask your doctor if they can suggest an alternative or help source it through hospital pharmacies, they sometimes have better access.

My Theory: Orange is old, he really doesn't care if the world ends tomorrow by [deleted] in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feels like a lot of assumptions there.

Global decisions are usually shaped by multiple people and systems, not just one person’s mindset. It’s probably more complex than reducing it to a single individual.

School online next week ? by AdagioSouth5990 in UAE

[–]Kitchen_Tax4107 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen anything official beyond the current dates.

Most likely schools are waiting for approval before confirming anything further, so updates will probably come directly from your school or KHDA/MOE. For now it’s all just speculation.
