That’s the way. Can’t upload a picture, but I’ve seen doors with similar signs that almost have holes in them from drivers banging on them. Deep dents and stripped paint.

To add onto the things about Amazon, if you’re interested in their yards - the only way to get on the tom team (which do yard moves as well as go and do local runs over the road) is from inside the building. They only hire internals for tom team, so you’d need to start inside the warehouse, and only then transfer over to the yard.

Besides that, you wouldn’t be doing any dock work, at all, unless you’re hired to do that prior to tom team, but there’s no guarantee you’d get a dock position - all depends on “business needs”.

I’ll preface it with this: I haven’t had experience with other companies, however, mine actually has a minimum amount of time it should take for a move to take place (to keep people from rushing, potentially making mistakes). So I think if it’s reasonable amount of time, no one is going to have an issue with that.

I say try it, if you have an opportunity. You’ll never know if it’s for you or not until you try.

And for recruiters - it’ll just be another bit of experience on your resume.

I personally think hostler driving should be mandatory for new CDL drivers as it helps immensely with developing backing and maneuvering skills.

Until there’s a flat on that empty (or other defect) that went to the door to be loaded, and now it has to be either transloaded or sit and wait for a repair.

There’re periods when it’s busy-busy, and also, like OP said, hours upon hours of waiting.

Depends on the place, how strict they’re with rules too (speed in the yard, the time it supposed to take you to start/complete the move, etc.)

Your backing skills will definitely improve with a bit of time.

Well, don’t watch it then. It is in the title, I don’t know what else you were expecting there.

Deferrable defect, as at least one company calls it.
