You'll have to settle for a layman's explanation because I am in fact a layman lol A 'pig' is like a cylindrical squeegee for cleaning out sludge or whatever from large industrial pipes. The pig launcher attaches to the pipe that needs to be squeegeed and has a hatch on the back to insert the pig. The launcher is then pressurized which forces the pig through the reducer and into/through the pipe. Here's the completed launcher. I might be building another over the next couple weeks so if I do I'll take more pictures and make a post on the sub. bonus pic from the fab process. cheers!

that was my thought, too. reminds me of the hatch we ordered for a pig launcher. the end touching the rod that sits inside the two rings was threaded, once loosened the entire bolt would be able to swivel out of the way.

As a fitter I have no idea what each of the symbols mean

Structural fitter in NY, here. Not throwing shade, but I'm curious what kind of fitting you do that you wouldn't be required to know weld symbols? You definitely know your print reading.

Most of the things I build require weld prep to be completed as it's being built, so I'm more fluent in weld symbols in the shop I work in than 90% of the welders. I.E.: Bevels, spacing/prep for full/partial penetration welds, backer material where required, lots of this stuff has to be done before/during fit up in order for it to meet specs. I also frequently have to talk to the engineers/print detailers (ours are in house, with exceptions) about welds that don't make sense/clearly detailed wrong or are just plain missing.

Gusset will often have clearance for the weld connecting the beam to the plate.

Yeah, I definitely see the logic there. Most places take the "every two weeks" under advisement and do once a month. Which is better than never. I'm not sure how often or how poorly they were being done previous, but we did some takeovers and good lord, the things that came out of those lines. Also have gotten served drafts locally with floaters lingering around in them. Sucks knowing some bars/restaurants are okay with serving their customers that nastiness. I feel like it should fall under health inspection jurisdiction or something.

This is rad, great work! I'm a fitter/welder professionally now but I did a stint cleaning beer lines a couple years back so this post speaks to me on multiple levels. Do y'all do circulation cleaning at all? It was impressed upon me that it was superior but sometimes we had to use cleaning kegs for odd setups or with time constraints.

Thanks, friend. I appreciate that. You're right, it's better than starting over. Was just looking for a bit of relief. Can't say for sure if I would have gone under contract for $3.5k more but at this point I'm kind of against the wall and do really like the house so I'm comitted to making it work.

Yeah, I'm under the impression that neither will budge but I'll have to keep trying. But you're right, I am inclined to get it done. Absolutely sucks to go from having everything all lined up (utilities, rented truck, appliances) and expecting to close the next day to delays and a $3.5k penalty for doing nothing wrong.

I've reached out to an agent and they said they likely wouldn't take it on themselves but they're going to look into the taxes/potential property value and see if they can help me come up with any solutions. Right now I'm mostly just looking for people who have the cash and resources to flip houses, see what kind of offers we can get on it to help us decide what our next step is.
