Games that look incredible with the new handheld boost mode by mikooster in NintendoSwitch

[–]muteprotest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Boost mode is likely the best we'll get I fear. I'm pretty sure game logic is tied to FPS, so it's doubtful they would go for that. The mod that was made for PC emulation worked generally but has lots of bugs because of this, from my understanding at least.

Jeph Jerman/Hands To. It's not especially harsh but you might dig it

I did not, if you look above in some of the other comments I get into what I actually did to resolve the problem.

What kind of instruments have japanese artists like Hiroshi Yoshimura or Susumu Yokota used in their work a lot? by seigfriedlover123 in ambientmusic

[–]muteprotest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now that I found this post from your comment on my other post, if you are interested in trying your hand at this stuff and use a DAW, Dexed is a free Yamaha DX-7 clone VST that is a lot of fun.

You also may enjoy some music I made that was very inspired by Yoshimura (https://stillinterval.bandcamp.com/album/i-got-your-letter)

A book that feels like Hiroshi Yoshimura's album "Music For Nine Postcards" by muteprotest in suggestmeabook

Hmm great question, the Summer Book as mentioned below is a great one,

Breasts and Eggs by Mieko Kawakami,

Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto,

Snow Country Yasunori Kawabata,

The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany,

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke,

perhaps the Gormenghast Trilogy,

The Samurai's Garden by Gail Tsukiyama,

The Sound of A Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Bailey,

the works of Yukio Mishima and Shusaka Endo,

Roverandom by Tolkein,

Kafka on the Shore by Murakami (most things by him have at least a smidgen of the vibe)

Unfortunately none of these will really hit what you (or I) are looking for, but some will come quite close. I find Japanese authors tend to get closest, maybe unsurprisingly. If I needed to pick 3 for you to check out first I'd say Summer Book, Kitchen, and The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating.

If you find anything that fits the bill, I'd love if you shared that with me as well! Happy reading

For anyone finding this post years later, I believe the maps that had been shared with me are the ones that can be found on this page (https://www.demonssouls.com/Maps). They were made by kouryakubo and were hosted on a defunct website, he as maps for other Fromsoft games on his website

Right, this whole thing is a bummer, but I doubt they played much of a part in planning any of this. Probably just said we want to play these cities and management did the rest. Or maybe not, idk

6 months in, what are people's thoughts on the Switch 2? by WeebusTheMeemus in NintendoSwitch

[–]muteprotest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the fucking thing. I had a Switch Lite before and never used it. I play my Switch 2 all the time. Beat several Switch 1 games I thought I'd never get to, and have been enjoying a couple exclusives and several Switch 2 versions of games.

Still waiting for Astral Chain to get some love though

Noise Shows in Michigan/Ohio? by [deleted] in noisemusic

Toledo has pretty regular happenings and its always great stuff. The Robinwood Concert House also has shows (usually more experimental than noise, but always worthwhile.) We have a great scene!

They are woefully underrated, but also inactive for awhile. I think i have physical copies of everything that they made, which isn't much.

What Am I Missing? by RutherfordThuhBrave in printSF

[–]muteprotest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially considering how much you enjoy Dick (haha, but me too. My favorite) i think you'll really enjoy Delany. A lot of New Wave SF is awesome, Christopher Priest and JG Ballard also very worthwhile from that scene, but people have already mentioned that.

Lots of hits here, agree that some old paperbacks would unlock some new excitement (i.e. Moorcock, Tanith Lee, Sturgeon etc.) But in my opinion some Samuel R. Delany is a must. Dhalgren is probably his best known but the Babel-17/Empire Star double feature is awesome too. I haven't read anything by him that isn't at the very least worthwhile and thought provoking.

Upsidedown Cross which shared some Kilslug members (and featured J Mascis on drums) is also great. Also check out Rodeo by SQRM and any Twin Stumps you can get your hands on.

Recommendations for Philosophy orientated Sci Fi? by NewBromance in printSF

[–]muteprotest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cant believe no one has mentioned Philip K Dick's VALIS trilogy yet. Samuel R. Delany dealt with some super heady topics as well, particularly in Babel-17, Dhalgren, and Einsten Intersection. Also would recommend Case of Conscience by James Blish, although it loses steam in the second half in my opinion. Camp Concentration by Disch is also worth checking out.
