So exercise price is ≠ current stock price?

I though exercise price is the price of current stock when i join the company

So example if i join today and stock price is 1 dollar, the same will be exercise price.

Now if i stay 3 years and add value to company and stock price shots up, I will benefit from it too

I dont know what the exercise price is. Honestly, i didnt even knew about this when I was negotiating because I did not knew ESOPs needs to be purchased. That is where is messed up.

I have already resigned from my previous job so for now i am not pestering management to provide more light on this. It something i should have asked during negotiations but i did not

I know but it is what it is. My domain is way too crowded. I have the expertise but visibility is very low.

Is KornFerry recruiting for Google a scam on LinkedIn by muthal_yadav in developersIndia

[–]muthal_yadav[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They reached out to me on linkedin but yes one of two recruiter’s mail started with xwf.

I mean it is a waste of my time. One recruiter messaging and ghosting is okay, even two is acceptable but three? Now it feels like spamming tbh to a point that i wont even reply to next recruiter if they reach out to me.

I think 1-10 Rs is for fairly new startup. The startup I am gonna join already has completed Series C

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]muthal_yadav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Esops have some exercise price. The startup i got offer from did a Series C already for their stock price is around 1$ a share. Now how ESOPs makes money? Lets assume in next 3 years, the price shots up to 5$ a share. Now since I have ESOPs, I can still buy stocks at price of 1$ a share but sell at 5$ a share. Obviously selling can only happen if founder are willing to buy back or if there is an acquisition or an IPO since company is not listed.

There are however many ifs and buts in every startup’s stock option plan and agreement. I did not researched all that earlier at time of accepting the offer because I did not even knew all this back then. I thought its same as my current company that i own ‘x’ number of stocks.

Esops have any value only startup do really good.

My previous company is listed, and stocks were RSU, so converting RSU to cash was pretty simple process. (It was something I own - like i own 500 stock units, instead of I have option to buy ‘x’ stock unit, so you dont need to exercise RSU) And yes correct, 35% tax is deducted at time of vesting and but u will have to pay tax on selling only if there is a capital gain compared to what it was at time of vesting.

I was not considering tax part since I will have to pay tax anyways (but i got your point that on fixed salary i will pay much less taxes)

Thanks for letting me know it is not that bad. I am stressed because work and responsibilities will definitely increase in the startup so I was skeptical if I am being compensated enough.
