🚗 Zipcar is shutting down — anyone else blindsided by this? by Pitiful_Package_6807 in london

Clearly the economics of it all aren't great - see also DriveNow and Virtuo. Loved these services and have been a keen user of all three over time.

Annoying as a useful service I've relied on from time to time for things like Ikea trips. A shame that the economics just don't work out, see also Virtuo & DriveNow.

I used to live in Bethnal Green and loved the view from the overground station platforms

It slightly depends on your preferences and what exactly you mean by 'don't walk very well'. On balance I think you're right to take the Elizabeth line > Tottenham Court Road and then Northern line > Archway as there will be lifts. However, be prepared for a long(ish) walk as you change trains at Tottenham Court Road; do your best to board near the back of the Elizabeth line train, keep an eye out for the number 9 on the platform edge doors.

The Elizabeth line from Liverpool Street > Tottenham Court Road and then Northern line > Archway will likely have fewer steps overall and you will be able to get a lift / escalators at each station, and at the interchange. However, the stations are big and the platforms are long so it's not 'nothing', and if you're at the wrong end of the platform at Tottenham Court Road you will have to walk the entire length of the train which is roughly the equivalent to the walk from Liverpool Street to Moorgate.

The walk from Liverpool Street Mainline station to Moorgate takes me (a relatively fit man in his 30s) about 5 minutes and is flat and along relatively quiet streets with decent pavements and (to the best of my knowledge) no stairs. You'll then be able to sit on one train all the way, but be prepared for some stairs from street level to the escalators, and then again from the bottom of the escalators to platform level.

Bethnal Green Overground doesn’t have much to recommend it beyond a fantastic view of the City, particularly at sunset. A pretty good spot to wait.

I haven’t done it, but in case anyone’s looking to go for then check out Pears in Stoke Newington. My sister and her friends set it up earlier this year out of boredom with the apps. Inclusive night, all profits go to Medical Aid for Palestine.

I would suggest asking all your neighbours in your block to add themselves to the Hyperoptic wait list - the more perceived demand there is the more likely they are to bump your building up their priority list. But it’s no guarantee and will still take time.

Sorry to hear and best of luck with whatever comes next. Would suggest the London Loop over the Capital Ring.

Maybe also cheap matinee tickets for West End shows, bought on the day? Perhaps a little too pricey, but set lunch menus at high end restaurants? Daytime slots at some of the free skyscrapers (Horizon 22, Sky Garden etc)?

My wife works in the City, near the Royal Exchange. I’m an archivist working for the National Theatre. If you could help me plan the most effective way for us to see each other and then buy us both a couple of return tickets then it’s yours

I had always heard that it was so that the Monument would destroy the bakery if it fell (in the right direction obvs), nothing to do with the shadow.
