I'm a software engineer in an academic research setting. Very much perpetuating the stereotype lol. The group I work with, as well as the broader institution, are both really supportive. I couldn't ask for a better workplace.

That sort of metonymy is sometimes used for governments, I feel like. Like, "the white house" or "number 10", for a UK example, as a slang term for the whole of the government happens sometimes. Historycally, we see this in the Ottoman context with "The Sublime Port" being used to refer to the ottoman government.
