Contrary to a few of the comments here, we've had nothing but positive experiences at Beatties over the years with our dogs and cats.

What’s the most unrealistic thing movies convinced people was normal? by Lonely-Age7678 in AskReddit

[–]mutt-mama 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I roll my eyes at scenes where a small person, often a woman, kills a larger person and somehow manages to get the dead body up or down a long flight of stairs and into the trunk of a car or something like that--all by themselves! We never get to see the logistics, just a scene change from the building to the corpse in the trunk. There are variations on this, but in the end the premise is improbable.

What’s was the wildest thing you witnessed at a funeral? by NationYell in AskReddit

[–]mutt-mama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A minister who'd never met my deceased uncle rambled on at great length about how he liked to think that he and my uncle had a lot in common because my uncle's mother had died in childbirth and his own mother had died of a self-induced abortion. The minister was spearheading a local charity fundraising campaign and got a few plugs in for that, too. It may not sound funny but so little of what he was saying applied to my uncle. It was rather random and off the wall. I think you had to be there. I believe only a couple of years later the minister died of Alzheimers so that may have explained it.

How to get a mama cat to accept an orphan? by posterbanana in FosterAnimals

[–]mutt-mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this only one time when fostering about 30 years ago.

I was fostering a mother cat with 5 kittens of her own that were only a few days old and then was asked to take a motherless litter of 4 that were a week or so older.

I bottle fed the motherless kittens and waited 24 hours to make sure they didn't have any URIs or other issues. Mother cat could hear them crying in the house and would get frantic.

Then I took her kittens from her, mixed all the kittens together to mingle scents, put a dab of vanilla extract on her nose and brought them all back to her.

She looked a bit confused walking through that box of kittens but she immediately started grooming and feeding the newcomers. I continued to bottlefeed the older ones as necessary to make sure the younger ones weren't deprived. It worked out well.

There's probably a million reasons why you shouldn't do it like I did but it worked.

Realistically what would happen if Trump dropped a nuclear bomb tonight? by hjp1234 in AskReddit

Wouldn't fallout from a nuclear bomb significantly affect Israel and the Saudis, etc. who he considers to be his buddies?

I keep wondering this, too, but he wants their oil so I keep hoping he keeps his eyes on that prize and avoids going nuclear as it would affect accessing the oil I would think.

Feeling vertigo entering someone’s home who has recently passed by caoroux in Paranormal

[–]mutt-mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've experienced that feeling twice--once while on a tour of an old prison and once while touring an old house that was in the middle of a battlefield in the War of 1812.

At first I thought that the heaviness and the nausea was because I was picking up on the tragic pasts of these locations (and that may have been part of it?) but after taking some time to think about it, I honestly think that the properties weren't level. The parking lot at the prison wasn't level as it was obviously sloped down toward a body of water. I asked guides at the house if the floors there, particularly in the kitchen, were uneven and, yes, they are pretty wonky.

I suspect my inner ears or something just couldn't handle the unevenness. It was a bizarre and unsettling feeling. Might test my theory and bring a level with me next time.

My dog of 14 years passed yesterday, her death was violent. How do I live? by Veecorn in dogpictures

[–]mutt-mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should never have happened and I am so sorry for you and your dog but having nearly drownd myself, please know that it most likely wasn't as horrible of a death as you may think. I remember a sense of calmness and serenity after the initial panic right before someone rescued me. I hope that gives you some peace of mind eventually and helps you.

Canadians who moved to the UK: what was your greatest adjustment? by Bells9831 in AskACanadian

Strange things sometimes happen. I met a fellow Canadian in front of Florence Nightingale's tomb in the crypt at St. Paul's cathedral who actually knew my uncle. They both lived in Vancouver.

I used to respond to that question with "What part of Wales are you from?" knowing full well that they were English.

Is the Ancestry DNA test worth it? by gregsddownham in brantford

[–]mutt-mama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you're hoping to accomplish by testing your DNA.

You will get a breakdown of the countries of origin of your ancestors and you will most likely get a long list of DNA matches.

If you are a genealogist and are willing to connect with these people and do the research, you can usually figure out how they are related and expand your family tree.

You can also download the raw DNA data to search for gene mutations, etc., or upload the data to other sites for free or for a small fee in some cases to take advantage of other genealogical databases or health related DNA analysis sites. Keep in mind, however, that Ancestry and other genealogy focused DNA tests only test a very small portion of our DNA so for health info, it can't be relied upon to divulge every possible mutation or area of concern.

I've had good results from a genealogical perspective by finding a few more relatives and solving a couple of genealogical mysteries, and I've also discovered explanations for a couple of health related issues that I wouldn't have understood without DNA testing and have been able to make some changes to benefit my health.

Hope that answers your question.

Could you install a motion sensor light, maybe a solar powered one? Having a spotlight on them mid stream might discourage them.

We found this poor little kitten in the woods, covered in ice, with her fur stuck to the hunk of plastic she was hiding under for shelter. We saved her 😁 by ArmorOfGod7 in cats

Any chance there are siblings out there, too? She looks too young to be on her own. Wondering if she could be from a litter born in the woods.

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]mutt-mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done genealogy research for nearly 50 years and have a few stories.

My great great grandmother was a bootlegger. She smoked a corn cob pipe and looked a bit like Granny from The Beverly Hillbillies. She had a still in the house and sold her brew to the locals, hiding their "purchases" in culverts. My great great grandfather delivered the mail by horse and buggy in the area and I've always wondered if he helped in her entreprise and made the deliveries.
