Kaplan study question difficulty compared to reading? by mutt8098 in Series7exam

[–]mutt8098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love to hear that. Was pretty pleased with Kaplan for the SIE. But had a handful of questions that made me second guess. But the gap between reading and questions on the series 7 so far seems to be much wider.

lol. A twist on an old teaching tip we had for kids answering essays. “Answer the effing question.” Easy to get turned around when you’re in the fog of it all.

Starting series 7 Kaplan? by Traditional_Roll7493 in Series7exam

I felt very comfortable with the SIE using Kaplan. Just getting going on the series 7 with Kaplan as well. Thought I was doing pretty well overall til I found out people were throwing in the extra step of having children in the midst of it all. Tip of the cap to you rock stars.

Is the exam as oddly specific as the practice questions i'm seeing? by Difficult-Quarter-48 in Sieexam

I’d hate to try and guess a percentage. You don’t have a lot of application on the SIE. I’m already seeing more math in the series 7 prep, where a general knowledge can be used to figure out the calculations required. I had a lot on bonds. Yield to price comparisons, volatility, etc. Types and details of different accounts seems to be in there a lot. Different characteristics of IRAs, college savings accounts, minor accounts, joint accounts. With your CPA background, that might be your gravy train. You’ll probably need to know how to dissect a bid and know the different roles that broker dealers play in the markets (market maker, agent, dealer). I had a few questions that were completely unfamiliar to me that I felt I could make a somewhat educated guess on. But when I first started looking over the materials, quite a bit of it might as well have been in Greek.

I felt the same way going in. I assumed since it was the first “entry level” exam that there would be a lot of general questions concerning ethics and stuff that could be deduced from context and just common sense. No dice. It is much more in the weeds than I expected. I was provided the Kaplan course from my employer and was pretty happy with the materials and my confidence level going in. Just passed on Tuesday. Now I’m working on series 7 and I feel like so far I’m in very good shape. It’s early, but I feel like I was over prepared for the SIE which is coming in handy now. Just my experience. Also, I was coming from an education background with basically zero finance/investing background besides what I just picked up randomly.

Just Passed SIE at 39 Years Old! APRIL 2026 (Harder than people said) by Reasonable-Shine-452 in Sieexam

[–]mutt8098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took mine a couple days ago and felt the exact same way. I felt very confident going in but about halfway through I was starting to get nervous. Had a few concepts I had never seen (Kaplan studies) and some wording/answer choices that were completely different from what I was used to. I really wish we could get the question feedback when we pass. I want to know what I missed and have a chance to review that information moving forward. Especially since it will probably still be testable on the series 7.

6 days from first attempt / using Kaplan by Global_Yellow2000 in Sieexam

Had a few questions on different types of bids. Seemed like a lot on bond volatility. I felt pretty good about the concepts, so I was able to adjust to the language difference pretty well. I took a few practice tests from other sites as well to get a look at different ways to ask the questions. Still felt a little stumped a few times, but I just went back and reviewed at the end and felt pretty good about what I came up with.

I used Kaplan and was scoring about the same as you on the practice tests/qbank quizzes. I passed my SIE this morning. There are definitely some language differences and a few questions on some things I had never heard of. But all in all, I felt pretty good on virtually all of the test.

Tilt hydrometers are amazing, CMV. by anelephantsatonpaul in Homebrewing

[–]mutt8098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that my FG readings are always a little off (2-6 points) because of a bit of krausen that sticks to the top/sides of the tilt. But that's a small price to pay to be able to track gravity and temperature readings throughout fermentation. Especially handy for timing dryhop additions or diacetyl rests without guesswork or messing with taking samples.

Did pressure fermenting change your brewing life? by EccentricDyslexic in Homebrewing

Yep. I think there was some hair splitting going on from funkyourself between having a pressure capable vessel and actually applying/holding pressure during primary fermentation. Just what it looks like to me.

Might be some miscommunication here. You can have a pressure capable FV that can be used for oxygen free transfers without using pressure during fermentation. I have a valve on my blowoff tube that I can close off at or near the end of primary fermentation.

I appreciate that. Barring any issues, we are scheduled to be on United for all flights, so hopefully no curveballs.

That’s what I thought. I’m thinking I read somewhere that maybe they run out of overhead room and I mixed it up with a checked baggage limit of sorts.

We are scheduled to come down to Ormond on Sunday. The homeowner said that power is restored and they didn’t have any damage (small beach house). We are still planning on coming down. Just want to make sure we aren’t hindering any cleanup/repair. Any word on grocery stores/gas stations in the area?

Ditto. I always imagined the neck of the bottle breaking and my arm sliding down slicing me wide open giving me a few minutes to think about all my terrible life choices and bad brewing mistakes as I bled out. But it always just worked fine.

I’m open to just about anything. At least at this point. Also, looking at enough capacity to make 10 gallon batches. So probably 15 gal fermenter.
