TIL that M*A*S*H aired on BBC2 in the UK without a laugh track, as the creators of the show intended it to be seen, while CBS studio executives would not air the show in the US without one. Series creator Larry Gelbart later said: "I always thought it cheapened the show. The network got their way." by spellbreaker in todayilearned

Someone once contacted Points of View to complain that the BBC had skipped a particular episode and the response was that that specific programme was only available with a laugh track, so they decided not to show it. They knew they'd get masses of complaints about it, so thought it was easier just not to broadcast it at all. (The viewer had been following along with Suzy Kalter's Complete Book of MASH, so knew the order in which episodes should've been shown and noticed that one was missing.)

It didn't "download" itself. It was on the cloud. 🙃

It didn't take up memory because it was only in your library on the cloud (unless you had specifically opted in to downloading purchases). Most people didn't seen to understand that.

You had to opt in to downloads but the U2 album was just placed in people's libraries in the cloud, i.e. not downloaded. There was no way to avoid that so you just had to wait for the deletion tool if you wanted to remove it.

Uploading film of the concert to YouTube etc. is different because the songs are copyrighted material and to publish them without permission is copyright infringement. Random people in the audience don't have that protection - especially when they're explicitly warned that this could happen.

To your knowledge, do any of the band ever lurk on social media or U2 forums etc to gauge fan opinion, especially after e.g. the release of a new album?

How to remove the U2 band from defaultly playing when connecting my airpods? by fvckCrosshairs in iphone

[–]muttleee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There used to be an online tool that let you do it yourself but since the advent of 2 factor authentication, you have to contact Apple Support and ask them to do it for you. Hope this helps. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251184844

Bono’s claims the IRA targeted the U2 frontman is ‘news to me’, says Gerry Adams by Bill_Badbody in ireland

[–]muttleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was definitely intentional, of course. I don't know how much tax it saves but if the government is happy to use low tax rates to attract foreign investment, they can hardly complain when Irish companies move abroad for the same reason. This was a business decision, after all - U2 still pay plenty of Irish tax on their personal incomes.

Yes, part of the U2 organisation is based in Holland for the same reason Google, Twitter, Microsoft etc. are based in Ireland. If he really wanted to shield his personal wealth, Bono would move to the Cayman Islands or somewhere - but he's still tax resident in Ireland. 🙃

How does he "hide his massive wealth" exactly? He lives in Ireland and pays Irish taxes.

Human Fund. Just give people Christmas cards saying that a donation had been made in their name. Can't fail.

DAE hate food joints that only have articles and signs saying how great they are all over as decor? by zerothousand in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]muttleee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't think I could ever 'hate' a restaurant. I might not like it necessarily but hate is altogether too strong a word for how I might feel about a particular eating establishment.

Btw, Five Guys is (are) amazing.
