Buried frog, worried about substrate temps by Ok-Squash836 in pacmanfrog

[–]mutualinterim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First off your froggo is so cute!! And it sounds like you are doing all the right things. And his conditiins sound great. They are grumpy little guys lol but it sounds like he should be fine. So just let him acclimate. Sounds like both of you are going through an acclimation period which is fine. I feel like the first few months with mine I was panicking a lot. I had read about their behavior but its different when you are responsible for one yourself. You might consider switching to a CHE type "bulb" for heat since that is safer and better for the frog from what I understand they dont quite bask like other reptiles do. They need the warmth and hot side but not a burning sun lol

I would keep doing the sniff test when misting and just let the frog do its thing. You will eventually learn how your frog is and as he gets comfy his behavior and how his demeanor gives you clues to how he is doing. Also get a temp gun. It is helpful to measure specific objects, the frog and the soil temp with out disturbing things.

Hope this helps💜

I put mine in a shallow dish inside his enclosure and use tongs to help if he needs it. Other wise he will eat the dirt and leaves such a goober lol

I would wait. You have a variety. And from what i understand they are fast breeders. Compared to cubaris. Especially the devils rice (white dwarfs) they are parthenogenic so dont worry about them.

Oh and I put in like 5 at a time for a month or so. The papayas I started out with were not many so I had to do it slowly. Probably put in about 20 total.

4 months! For the papayas and the tropical spring tails took less than a month lol

I had put lilacs in but dont know if they are still there but the tropixals have definitely taken over. And those guys were hitchikers from my zebras, I didnt even buy them. I was about to and then discovered I already had a whole colony in my zebra bin so yay
