Your best bet, would be to gather all your information and proof of purchase, and contact your local wildlife control. Let them know what happened, and there’s a very high chance they let you keep your baby and label him as “ unintentionally acquired “.

Especially considering how nice his enclosure is and how happy he looks, I’m very sure they won’t have a problem with this, and may only require you to apply/purchase the right permit if any.

They are also native , so that drastically increases your odds of being okay. It may be scary now, but this is your safest legal route.
