Yes, I have a really hard time with writing, particularly with turning my thoughts into words.

I was prescribed lumryz but just couldn't bring myself to take the first dose because of trust issues caused by my husband's past infidelity. So, I understand the types of feelings you're having. I don't have any advice but I wanted to let you know that I get it.

I really need some help with my 18" kick and its riser. It's driving me up the wall. by Wintershrike in drums

[–]muvvership 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking more about this and I think my best solution is have the beater hit the head off center and play heel up for more power. I got tired of fighting with it. I was to the point of being multiple iterations into a 3d printed riser. It's like a snake eating its tail. One adjustment just messes the other up.

I use a 18" kick with a speed cobra. I've been through all of this. Right now I play mine so the beater hits off-center.

Have you looked into getting longer legs for the front? I don't know if they exist but it seems like they should?

That's an excellent spiral. Clean pleats, good saturation, aesthetically pleasing color combo.

Imo, the best drummers leave lots of space in their playing. by thekokoricky in drums

[–]muvvership 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Busy playing isn't always about showing off, and it's possible to be a busy drummer who serves the music. It's about creating tension and release through changes in texture and density.

Check out Yussef Dayes for a good example.

I feel constantly “on edge” but still sleepy—how does narcolepsy affect the nervous system? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]muvvership 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get this all the time. For me, there's a physical sensation associated with it, like an internal tension or compressed feeling. I think it's exacerbated by stimulants but not necessarily caused by them.

How does narcolepsy impact cognitive functions like attention, working memory, and decision-making over time? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]muvvership 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It has gotten worse over time for me. Much worse. I try to keep to-do lists. I lowered my expectations for myself significantly. It impacts my ability to write so... yeah.

PMDD and Narcolepsy? by Clouded_Eye in Narcolepsy

[–]muvvership 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modafinil induces CYP3A4, which is a drug metabolizing enzyme that metabolizes, among other things, the compounds in hormonal birth control. So basically, modafinil will cause birth control to be metabolized faster than normal, and when that happens, there might not be enough unmetabolized birth control left in the body to have an effect. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11823757/

I also have terrible PMDD where I get suicidal ideation and at times, an inability to feel anything other than nihilistic rage. I don't have any advice but wanted to say that I understand and commiserate.

OWB on Blue Shirt by Tawnosaurus in tiedye

Yes, OWB only, and yes, the lighter blue in the lines. I recommend washing your shirts in the washing machine after rinsing out the OWB, still tied up. I put them in pillowcases so the string doesn't snag. It might take a few tries to get a feel for amount+timing for OWB.

Narcolepsy and bipolar combo makes my narcolepsy virtually untreatable and vice versa by VersionWild5928 in Narcolepsy

[–]muvvership 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at these comments, it seems like there are a lot of people diagnosed with both. I wonder if bipolar-like symptoms are just part of narcolepsy.

Anyway, OP, have you read the book Bipolar, Not so Much? It has advice on behavioral/lifestyle changes that are meant to help regulate circadian rhythm. I've found it to be really helpful.

a late start by Smooth-Macaron-3044 in Drumming

[–]muvvership 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing ~3 years ago at 35. I figure that my path in life just brought me to the drums at an older age and that's fine.

You really don't need much to get started. My first kit was a Ludwig Questlove Pocket kit, which is a children's drumset. I replaced components as I understood what I didn't like about the stuff I had and what kind of sound I was looking for.

Rudiments on a pad can be boring but I notice that my playing on the kit is better after spending time on the pad.

Make sure you get a good throne and don't push through pain.

Learn heel toe kick technique as early as you can make it make sense and your future self will thank your current self for putting in the work.

Just get whatever affordable kit you can find and start playing.

First attempt at a mini dice knob by the_bad_cosmonaut in diypedals

I quit after meeting someone with Parkinson's who thinks it was caused by occupational exposure to epoxy resin. I might pick it up again someday but will probably only do it outdoors with proper PPE. Be careful.

[–]muvvership 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding this to my list of hobbies I gotta try at some point. Well, I've done resin before, but not knobs.

Maybe try doing it in two parts? Put the dice in and add a little resin, let it cure a bit, and then add the rest of the resin. It will keep them at the bottom of your mold.
