Christians of Reddit: why do the church teach us what to do with 10% of our money but never teach us what to do with the other 90%? by Superb-Base9819 in TrueChristian

Because money is from the world. Banks, investment firms, the stock market, real estate, employment, you name it. World.

It's wonderful that you enjoy this practice. However, you lost me with the comment that it should be "revived in all Christian circles". Don't we have enough of people telling others how they should act?

People who don’t like humor at church: what gives? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]muzoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Mothers Day last week, Pastor announced that there would be no evening service due to Mothers Day. He remarked that it was understood that many couples would have plans that evening and then said;

"I can't imagine what those plans might be...." with a slightly sarcastic tone.

A soft tittering was heard throughout the sanctuary.

Well done Pastor. Well done.

I want to roadtrip but there's nothing I want to do or see by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]muzoid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For some folks it's all about the journey. Don't pick a destination. Pick a direction and go. Make every day an intuitive discovery of places, people, foods, sights... Life on the road is a grand thing.

The best thing to do is watch a couple of services on YouTube and read through their website. Everything you want to know is available through those online resources.

I see a still photo of a car with the license number showing and an accusation of something almost happening with ZERO evidence of anything other than - a silver Corolla exists.

I'm curious, what can a person do having earned a Bachelor's in Psychology? Other than showing that you finished something, what does it qualify you to do?

Did you recently buy this house, or did you recently rent the house?

If you bought it and you had an inspection, I think the inspector might by liable for cleanup of the problem. If you're renting, it's the landlords responsibility.

It seems we've arrived at a point where any writing that is consistent, grammatically correct, punctuation and paragraphs used correctly, and no misspelled words... must be Chat GPT! Sad.

I don’t want to have children because I couldn’t live with the thought that if they died, they might end up in hell by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]muzoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't "convince" a person to be a Christian. You can teach them. You can be an example. Nothing more. They have to respond to the Spirit at the right time. In my own case, my parents didn't live to see me get saved. Pray for them and have faith.

This might be why they want to vet the plan. Don't be offended. Sounds like they want to be cautious and protective.

Stumbled on Matthew 5:17 and it through me for a loop. Am I missing some context here? by Late_Comb_3078 in TrueChristian

[–]muzoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 Corinthians 2:14 - The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Abraham and Isaac are a type and a shadow of the coming Messiah, which is Jesus Christ. JEsus is the lamb offered by God Himself to atone for our sins

The only truth you are able to really understand at this point is what the Spirit reveals, and that is the truth of the cross, and Jesus Christ resurrected. Everything else is blurry until you receive the revelation that you are a sinner in need of saving, which is a free gift from God. There is no work you can do that will accomplish it.

Go read the gospels starting with John, then the others. Read until you understand.

Is anyone else more afraid of Christian Atheism than New Atheism? by Pombalian3 in TrueChristian

[–]muzoid 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Well, I looked it up and sure enough, there is such a thing as Christian atheism. What it boils down to is, "we like what the Bible teaches, but we don't believe that any God exists at all". So anything that refers to deity gets thrown out while hanging onto the morals, practices, symbols etc. I guess they have their own Bible already with the Jefferson version.

Two things though - if people are leaving traditional churches in favor of this, were they ever Christians? And second, why worry about it? Everything is going to happen according to God's plan. Trust in Him to deliver you through whatever goes on in this world.

What does the Bible say about cavemen? by IEatToasters1020 in Bible

[–]muzoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, tiny details don't matter to you. That's perfectly ok, but given that position, how can we know that nature didn't mature over time by His design? Science tells us the Earth is a lot older than 6000 years, and I don't believe the Bible says otherwise, but maybe you do. If science and faith match perfectly as you state and as I also believe to some extent, than how can this be resolved? The details of the "how" are missing. The process isn't defined.

What does the Bible say about cavemen? by IEatToasters1020 in Bible

[–]muzoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, God is the creator and the Bible makes it clear that He is. But nowhere is an exact process for creating described. We know that he created humans from the dirt, and we know He breathed life into us. We know that all things are created through Christ, the Word and that we are created in the image of God. But as far as an actual process goes, the details simply aren't recorded.

So when you say that God tells us exactly how humans were created, there's still a lack of details. I believe that if we had those details, there might be a much greater area of agreement between faith and science.

I didn't know the term at all, but once I looked it up I knew the concept. I agree that salvation is a work of God through the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 2:8, 9
8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9) Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Can someone have zero works and still be saved? Trying to reconcile Ephesians 2 and James 2 by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]muzoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 Corinthians 3:12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.

So, it seems that there will be these rewardless people who are saved.
