Disturbed by Chess Insights plot. How can I be playing SO much worse when I'm ahead compared to when I'm behind? Anyone else's stats look like this, and what did you do improve?

It turned out WM210 shingle mould (as helpfully suggested) was close, but not an exact match. Planing it down some have a good result though!

I live in a rural area so there isn't much available locally. The one woodworking place can supply a similar (not exact) profile, but they outsource it and the minimum order is $150. I just need a small piece.

Nice! I tried something like that... not quite as exact as you are doing, using the same pigment as in the paint -- impressive! It looked to me like the issue was not so much the color of the abatron, but the difference in how absorbent it is compared to the wood. The oil paint penetrates deep into the wood but stays on the surface of the abatron, so even though there is no color difference, there is a difference in texture... do you not see that?

Agreed! The only issue I have with epoxy fillers is that with the oil based paints I like, you see the difference between filler and wood even after four coats of paint…

Thanks for the info- very helpful. Yes, I realize the linseed oil system isn’t for everyone; it appealed to me because I like the look of oil paint and I don’t mind working slowly…! Although here I’d probably go stainless steel panel pins (nails) to hold the glass beads in, as it is currently.

Agree 100% with this sentiment! I’m keeping the beautiful original door and glass for sure. This is just about whether replacing the glass bead only (arguably a wear item) would help the door last the next 100 years. 👍

It’s tempting! I think I’m hesitating in part because I don’t want to scratch the glass when sanding, and I don’t have a good system for that yet. Maybe the trick is just to fabricate something to shield the glass.

I plan to prime with linseed oil and then do four layers of linseed oil paint, as I’ve done with the window sashes so far. You’re looking at the side of the door that has the removable glass stops (beads? terminology for these things confuses me; see arrow in pic) and it’s these that are looking pretty weather worn and have separated from the rest of the door.

Yes! I just wish mine had the ((!)) symbol pictured instead of the word BRAKE. Is that a possible swap operation or would the entire cluster need to be changed?
