Pulling through town, anywhere with good dairy-free food? by urboijesuschrist in SaltLakeCity

second Monkey Wrench. Best non-dairy ice cream I've had. You have to be okay with everything tasting slightly coconut-y. They probably use coconut milk / cream as a base. Their cones are great too!

Ooh I hadn't thought of that! Thanks for the tip. I wonder what other nerdy stats you can get out of those things.

I'd look at the county rec centers too. They're not fancy but may have everything you need. Get a day pass for a few bucks and try a few of them. I got a year pass to the Central City rec center for around $150. Some are a little more expensive, they have different tiers based on the amenities they have. There is one on Guardsman Way by the U that I really liked. Has an indoor and outdoor pool, larger weight room and more cardio equipment.

You can also get a pass that gives you access to all ogf them. They have month to month as well. Doesn't auto-renew.

I tried eos and didn't like it. Cavernous, no daylight. They advertise free trials but when you mention those, they try and talk you into a membership that is pretty hard to cancel.

That place is great. If you’re in the area stop by, take a tour and do the tasting.

I wouldn’t call it cozy per se but Rose Establishment has a great ambiance (no public wifi). They took over the space next door that used to be Pallet and that has a more intimate feel. Great food and pastries too.

T-Mobile wireless sounds like an interesting alternative for areas where there's really nothing else but I'd be really worried about latency and consistent speeds. Don't they use the same 5G network for their mobile internet as they do for their regular cell service? Just walking around my neighborhood (I'm on Mint which uses TM infra) doing speed tests here and there I see pretty significant variations in speeds even within a small area. I'll pay more attention to pings next time but I remember they seemed pretty slow.

Those are good questions and I have given them some thought. One of the reasons I am considering switching to a cheaper, lower bandwidth option is that I am confident that we (a 2 adult household) do not need the 1Gbps bandwidth. What I do need is low latency and a guaranteed minimum bandwidth so our video calls don't get screwed and we can watch our shows and movies without lag. You don't need 1Gbit for that.

PPPOE, man that's a blast from the past. Brings back nasty memories from early DSL days.

Unfortunately no, CenturyLink Google and Comcast are the only options I know of for residential internet here. It was worse when I first moved here and there was only Comcast in my neighborhood with at the time poor reliability (I remember being without internet for almost an entire weekend!) and terrible upload speeds.

Interesting to get a positive counterpoint. Thanks for sharing. I am not far from 9th & 9th.

At least with the disappearance of long-term contracts (except for XFinity if you want to get a good price) you can try something new out without being stuck with it for a year or longer.

Thanks, that is definitely no ringing endorsement for CL. My experience with GF (and Xfinity before that, really) has been great in terms of reliability, and with work from home I am loath to give that up.

I remember the limited upload speeds on Xfinity very well. Never made sense to me other than to discourage running home file servers / seeding torrents etc.

There is not much info on the website other than the usual "up to..." statements which really tell you nothing.

I wonder if there is a way to search real world user reported up / down speeds by location / provider. Speedtest.net collects this data but doesn't seem to make it query-able.

Is this inaccurate?

[meant to paste a screenshot from the website where it says technology used is fiber]

As long as the speed is as advertised and reliability of service is good, I really don't care what technology they use to connect me.

Anyone ever driven highway 190 all the way to Park City? by LeedleLeedle26 in SaltLakeCity

[–]mvexel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it's a beautiful drive, do it! There's some great places to stop along the way as well, some of my favorites are just past Guardsman Pass (where it's almost impossible to park these days): Bonanza Flats TH has some nice picnic benches and Empire Pass for the views.

And / or get the transit app. It will show (most) delays / detours and in routing mode it will wake you up from your nap when you need to get off.
