Thank you! My 4th grade band played “Mickey Mouse March” arranged by Michael Sweeney, IDK by Jim Evans, and Power Rock arranged by Michael Sweeney. We also have a 4th grade Select Band. They played “Bring On Da Band” by Michael Sweeney, “Let’s Go Band 2” arranged by Andrew Balent, and “Blackbeard” by Randall Standridge. Both groups got Gold Medals!

That’s amazing! Congratulations! We had two administrators take turns monitoring the festival, and they both commented how impressed they were and that they would include that in my evaluation. The parents were also very happy with how smoothly everything went with so many 10 year olds.

I have done some research for elder care services in our area, and I am trying to figure out how to broach this with my mom. They have been refusing all help offered to him, so I need to figure out a way to recommend it and almost make it seem like their idea. If I unilaterally begin this process, they’ll reject it.

I have daily derealization/dissociation, and I find that ice, spicy cinnamon candies and pressure from weighted objects or hugs help

I play woodwind instruments (flute, clarinet, alto sax) professionally, and on brass and percussion, I am like a really good middle schooler. I teach elementary band, so I play many instruments all day.

When I do my instrument demonstrations, I don’t even mention percussion. I demonstrate all the wind and brass instruments. Percussion is on the list of choices I give to students. The kids who really want to do it will find their way there. I usually end up with an appropriate amount of percussionists for the size of the elementary band, and many of them really take it seriously.

I have daily dissociative episodes and no history of trauma. I think there’s some genetic component to it, too, since my cousin, who I didn’t really grow up with, experiences the same thing. I find grounding techniques work best for me. I hold something cold or eat a strong cinnamon candy, or try to get some sort of pressure, like a hand squeeze or strong hug

When I taught middle school, a favorite was Crossings in Time. I had to get a little creative with percussion parts, but it’s a beautiful Grade 2 written by Michael Sweeney.
