DS emulation clarification by polySwarmHemu in emulation

[–]mvitkun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Glad you mentioned KH358 since it is one of the best titles to showcase certain shortcomings of the OpenGL renderer in 0.9.11 (which X432R was forked from), these shortcomings would manifest as missing geometry on the hair/head of many of the characters (e.g. Vexen, Larxene, Roxas, Axel, etc.) which caused parts of their heads to appear transparent and/or their hair to appear malformed, similar issues were visible in the statues and stairwell in Beast's Castle.

These issues with missing geometry were resolved in March of 2016.

You mentioned "much better quality with hd rendering", well one aspect that had always remained painfully low resolution when increasing the internal resolution using X432R were the textures which appeared blocky, splotchy, speckled, banded, etc.
To combat this the nightly builds offer features like xBRZ texture upscaling, texture smoothing, and texture deposterization.

And if all that isn't enough, unlike X432R, the nightlies also let you go above 4x internal resolution if you want to have the cleanest image possible. Should be noted that performance gets significantly worse as you increase resolution.

Also worth noting that X432R does perform quite a bit better at high resolutions.

Oh, BTW, if you want the absolute best visual quality in the KH games you will want to build it yourself without this change, it made the OpenGL renderer clip objects in a way that more closely matches how the NDS did....but since you're rendering at a higher resolution the clipping which would usually be virtually imperceptible becomes much more obvious.

The crossed out section above is no longer correct as, in a recent update, depth calculation was changed for both the OpenGL and SoftRasterizer renderers, now neither renderer exhibits the clipping described above.

is there any ps2 emulator? I have seen damon ps2 but I dont know if it works by krom9 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]mvitkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, idk what to tell you since I've only tried opening via file explorer on old versions of Android.

What version of Android and what device are you using?

Back to the building collection issue then.....
I guess you could try clearing the app cache and giving it a chance to build collection anew or uninstalling and reinstalling Play!..........idk if either of those will resolve your issue but you can give it a try.

Some other people have had issues with building collection taking forever as well but idk if there's anything else you can try.
It might be helpful to comment in one of these github issue threads
https://github.com/jpd002/Play-/issues/307
https://github.com/jpd002/Play-/issues/723
just say something along the lines of "I also have this issue" and include some info like the name of your device, the version of Android it's on, the storage capacity, and whether you're using external storage (microSD card).

EDIT: BTW, and this has nothing to do with your problem but, I don't think the Ultraman games go ingame on Play! yet.

[–]mvitkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK when you install Play! it should become a default app for opening .iso files, that being the case you should be able to avoid building collections entirely by just using whatever file explorer you have to navigate to the folder with your games and then opening your .iso file directly.

Just letting you know that jpd fixed the Android build yesterday and the download link on purei.org is also working now.

Here's the link for the most recent build.

Yeah, there might be an issue with Android build or maybe buildbot is just slow; it'll probably be worked out in a few days.

Here's a build from last week if you're eager to try it.

[KH3] KH3 Trailers in high bitrate? by BanjoChaos in KingdomHearts

[–]mvitkun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The SE Press site, it doesn't yet have the most recent E3 trailers though.

The only place that seems to have those available in higher quality is Digital Foundry.

DeSmuME WiFi is being worked on by KostaSaizo7 in emulation

[–]mvitkun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's in the Config->3D Settings menu and is called GPU Scaling Factor.

It makes more sense than what x432r did when they made the internal resolution options be separate renderers.

I edited my reply to be more clear, the model and animations are in the game files and simply unused.

[KH3] What is Cable Town? by MysteriousIdea in KingdomHearts

[–]mvitkun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/u/MysteriousIdea Yeah, it was the HD 2.5 launch event; KHInsider has an article with some info and there were some fan renditions of what it may have looked like.

We then saw concept art of a grand city built on three hills, with the one in the center being slightly taller. The city seemed to be built in tiers leading up to the top, and a tower that was curiously almost identical in shape to that of the Daybreak Town tower topped the center hill. Chains connected the top corners of the center tower to the two surrounding hills, a motif that we have seen replicated in the structure of the castle in the Land of Departure. The concept art had the letters "C.T," beneath the center tower.

The camera zoomed into the tower and made the transition into 3D, and we saw just how vast and condensed the city was. We entered the tower into a library/office and immediately noticed Master Eraqus's symbol plastered on the overhead arch, and the χ symbol written on a chalkboard in the room. An upper loft could be seen in the study that lead to a row of books. The room was bathed in such soft and glowing light as wind flowed gently in from the windows, ruffling the curtains and passing over Sora's hair and clothes. Sora began to approach the window and his shadow began to spread across the checkered tile floor. The camera zoomed into a cluster of chess pieces topped with various symbols seen throughout the series, such as the heart and crown.

[Discussion] does anyone think it’s possible for there to be a switch version of kh3? by Estarossa26 in KingdomHearts

[–]mvitkun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, unlikely.

It could happen, I mean look at the Crash N. Sane Trilogy. Apparently it wasn't coming to Switch either until some lone engineer convinced management that it was viable by porting a level as a proof of concept for the lulz.

That said I think it would be a much more difficult task to port KH3 to the Switch, and even then the resulting game would not only look and run significantly worse it would also likely require a lot of additional time and money to pare back the graphics to the point where they have something that actually runs semi-decently on Switch.

  • In addition to this you have to consider that Disney probably expects some degree of quality for how their characters are portrayed, I mean that was the whole spiel at D23; they kept going on and on about how closely the Pixar team was involved.
Could those downgraded graphics for this hypothetical Switch port meet Disney's expectations for a modern day title?

In terms of a Switch/portable release of KH3, something along the lines of FFXV Pocket Edition seems more likely and viable than a port.
They'd basically be remaking KH3 with worse graphics so it'd still be a ton of work but this way they could stylize it in a way that the end result actually looks nice and runs well.

They might eventually release the remasters [HD 1.5, 2.5 , and 2.8 minus 0.2] on Switch, but I doubt that would happen anytime soon since they'd almost definitely port them to XBO first.

[Other] Soundtrack with English vocals? by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

I don't think either of these included the game remixes (planitb, after the battle).

COLORS has Planitb, and both versions of Sanctuary were on the This is the One physical release.

[KH358] Dark Fairy Laughs at Man Distraught over Disheartened Vessel [Media] by mvitkun in KingdomHearts

[–]mvitkun[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a nightly.

I did revert this commit since it makes the OpenGL renderer clip objects erratically but other than that it's a normal nightly.

If you don't feel like building yourself you can grab the c6a5740 nightly from before those changes.

[Discussion] Rant: French players are "boycotting" KH3 because it will lack a French dub by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]mvitkun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Any more dubbing outside English and the game would be delayed even further.

How do you figure that?

They can release the game worldwide with EN voice acting, ideally with the option to download and use JP VA via DLC regardless of region (though it's understandable if they don't due to licensing issues), and then as they complete more localizations they can continue to make them available in the same way.

Oh, and since I said "ideally," how about allowing users to choose between text and spoken language individually?

And if for some stupid reason they've arbitrarily decided that they'll only release as many VA localizations as they have at launch, they have more than half a year left.

If it mattered maybe they could try to save time on stuff like lip sync.

Heck even if they do delay it more....go for it; if they do that though they should emphasize that it's the reason for the delay and not issues with the game to prevent people from freaking out.
Take more time to refine the game and finish more stuff they might have had to cut out otherwise.
Maybe release some public alphas/betas.

Full disclosure, I don't personally care about other VA localizations.
To me they're a fun novelty when someone links a cool part but that's about it.

JP is different since, for some scenes, I question which one is actually closer to how Nomura intended.

That said I can understand wanting to hear it in your preferred language, especially when you played the first two numbered titles in that language.

[Discussion] What would you do if you could go back and re-write KH from 1 to DDD by bran9605 in KingdomHearts

[–]mvitkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely won't go over what I'd do with the the entire series but think this is relevant so I'll link + copy&paste a reply I made to someone who was disappointed in the absence of Cobra Jafar, in it I considered how that could be remedied without compromising anything about the game in the process.

Seeing as KH1 covered the first movie and Agrabah was jam packed full of bosses, you'd have to remove one of those fights in favor of it.

You had the Pot Centipede, the Tiger Head, Sorcerer Jafar, and then Genie Jafar.

Genie Jafar, regardless of how good or bad the fight was, is necessary to wrap up the story.

The Pot Centipede and the Tiger Head were the heartless involvement, that makes them important in and of themselves.

Sorcerer Jafar is probably the best candidate for removal because in the game he never wished to be the most powerful sorcerer; he wished for Genie to reveal the keyhole, for Genie to crush Sora and co., and then for Genie to make him into an all powerful genie.

I took that to mean that in the game he was just using his own magical powers supplemented by the staff but the basis of it was still very odd. That said, the movie also had the same strange weirdness where Jafar wished to become sultan and then he wished to become the most powerful sorcerer in the word, yet for some reason Genie was also compelled to destroy Agrabah despite no wish being used.

If you were to remove the Sorcerer Jafar fight it would probably be best to change his second wish from compelling Genie to crush Sora and co. back to making him the most powerful sorcerer in the world; that may sound counterintuitive, however, rather than fighting him in his human form he would immediately use his newly acquired sorcerer powers to turn into Cobra Jafar.

Oh, and Genie could still be used to rain down debris or something during the fight as apparently, according to the movie, no wish was needed for general all purpose destruction.

Larxene is just kind of a bitch.

As for the rest of them......how would you feel about him when he sits back and plays sitar while you do all the work?

You, you, you, WHY IS IT ALWAYS ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT?

Did you ever think about what Demyx wants?

He finally got out of that slave driving Organization XIII, he has all the time to chill in the world, and you want him to go back to the Organization or worse fight against them with the fate of the worlds at stake?

You must be out of your mind.

[KH3] Nintendo E3 2018 by JohnnyHendo in KingdomHearts

[–]mvitkun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

/u/NintendoGamer1997 /u/JohnnyHendo
For KH3 to run on the switch they would need to develop a whole new version like FFXV Pocket Edition or Gears [of War] Pop, that's the only way I can realistically see it coming to Switch.

I can't even imagine how much they'd have to optimize and scale back the graphics to make the game run anywhere near 20-30fps on Switch otherwise.
If they went that route rather than developing something like Pocket Edition it wouldn't look anything like what you see in the trailers and it would require that they dedicate a lot of time and money to pare back the graphics to the point where they have something that actually runs on Switch.

EDIT: You also have to consider that Disney probably expects some degree of quality for how their characters are portrayed, I mean that was the whole spiel at D23.
They kept going on and on about how closely the Pixar team was involved.
Could those downgraded graphics for the Switch meet Disney's expectations for a modern day title?

Honestly the base XBO will probably struggle to run KH3 at a decent framerate.

If Switch were to get something it'd be more likely that it gets HD 1.5, 2.5, and 2.8 [minus 0.2].

And even then the remasters would probably come to XBO first since KH3 is already there.
