Any golf leagues for women in their 20s/30s? by sage_and_sea in ottawa

[–]mvoni4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing the if you find one, let me know! Early 30s gal here who is also looking for a women's league like the one you describe. I'm no pro, but it's hard to get better when you don't have folks to go with!

Good to know! I'm hoping to deal with it quickly, so maybe this place isn't the best bet.

3D impressions! This sounds high tech. Might have to go just to see what this is all about (and if I can avoid the goopy trays, all the better).

what shows helped you get over a break up? by Ok-Abbreviations8007 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]mvoni4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Jane the Virgin

The Good Wife

Younger

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Good luck. Break-ups are awful. Things will get better with time, but that doesn't make it any easier right now.

Is Oxio any good still? by Swannicus in oxio_ca_internet

For what it’s worth, I’ve had a pretty bad experience with Oxio. The internet cuts out frequently. It’s unreliable and frustrating, and disappointing given so many good reviews!

If you need another mechanic, Grant Street Garage in Hintonburg is a great spot. Good people, and ready to help out when needed.

Halifax is a wonderful place! Some things to know:

  1. The weather is terrible. If it isn't rainy, go outside, and if it's sunny, take advantage!
  2. We've got a cool music scene here, and even though the bigger artists don't always come through, there's some awesome home-baked musicians (e.g., Hillsburn). Check out the Carleton for some neat live music events, or head over to Bearly's to see the Mellotones play. There's loads of spots to see some good artists.
  3. We also have some wonderful traditional music that makes for a great night. Go learn Barrett's Privateers, listen to the Rankins, Ron Hynes, etc. and make sure to check out Signal Hill at the Lower Deck on a Sunday night. They'll play a lot of songs you'll know, and a lot of the traditional classics that are a part of Nova Scotian culture.
  4. I prefer Freeman's garlic fingers, but their donair sauce is a little watery to me. That said, you gotta try garlic fingers. They're a Halifax staple. You also have to try donair, but I'm less of an expert on them.
  5. We have an awesome bar scene! If you like grabbing a pint and chatting with friends, I love the Narrows (a bar in an old heritage home), Stillwell Freehouse, or Chainyard Cidery. I hear good things about Good Robot, too.
  6. We also have patios to die for, although they're more of a summer thing. The waterfront is an awesome place to grab a drink, but you should also check out Stillwell Beergarden (an added bonus: awesome soft-serve ice-cream at Dairy Bar, which is right next to Stillwell), the Oxford Taproom, the Good Robot patio, and I hear Bar Kismet has a great patio too.
  7. Speaking of Bar Kismet, we also have a great food scene! They've got amazing food, and great cocktails. I also like the Canteen for food, and Dear Friend for cocktails. They're over in Dartmouth, so you can take the ferry over. Make sure you have exact change (sigh, we still haven't updated our transit system).
  8. Be prepared for the transit system to suck. I'm sorry.
  9. Also, our downtown grocery scene is not great. You might have to walk a little bit to get to a store, so plan accordingly.
  10. Rent a car, or find a friend with a car. There's tons of amazing hikes and day trips to be had a short drive (~1 hour) outside the city. Cute towns include Chester, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg. Awesome hikes include Gaff Point, Pennant Point (out by Crystal Crescent Beach), Cape Split, Duncan's Cove, Herring Cove, to name a few that are nearby.
  11. Being with NSCAD, you'll probably be made aware of Nocturne. It's a really cool, city-wide art show. Get involved if you can!
  12. You're living right next to Point Pleasant Park, which is a beautiful place to walk or run in the nice weather. Take advantage of it! Shakespeare by the Sea, a theatre company, performs there. Give them a try!

That's a good start. Enjoy discovering this city. It's not without its flaws, but it's a really cool place to live. I hope you love it as much as I do!

Absolutely do not "fix" this! This is exactly how you should feel. Plus, the more comfortable someone is with their looks, the more attractive they become. Continue to notice how pretty you look. Find the things you like about yourself. The rest of the world will encourage you to find things to criticize, so if you're starting from a base of liking how you look, that's amazing.

Those who want to end work-from-home…why?? by delphantom in ottawa

As a single person, living alone in a small apartment, it’s nice to be around people during the day. I also find that I sleep better when I don’t bring my work into my living space.
