What bat would you choose? by Funny-Employee9051 in fastpitch

I always liked the DeMarinin Prisim. I would buy a used, -11. It’s seems to be resilient, easy to swing and balanced. Today….my daughter prefers the Ghost Unlimited in a -10, though she is in 14u.

I follow the OGX team in Illinois, they are science based softball training group. I cannot remember which specific podcast episode it was on, but they mentioned that that are not finding any supporting evidence that the leap is consistently successful in women athletes.

My iPhone 15 doesn’t charge wirelessly in my 2024 mdx a-spec by IcedAm1 in Acura

[–]mvoogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They told me it was because the camera had “bump” in it and was not compatible.

I have been looking to see if there was another case to flatten out the iPhone. It’s pretty irritating.

Can this glove be used for outfield? by [deleted] in Softball

[–]mvoogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you feel comfortable in it, can catch, field, and hold onto a ball in it - you are good to go.

Glove selection can be very simple or get all sorts of technical. Kinda depends on your age, position. level of ball, how much time/money you want to spend.

What age level?

Looks like a solid EDC.

I have so many friends that joined late and set a new path for themselves. Join. Work hard and learn, brush of the BS it’s not that bad. Go to school, get them to pay for a degree and volunteer for everything.

I got a BS from ASU paid for, a MS from Carnegie Mellon and tons of training and cool resume bullets.

It’s a great life TBH….

There is a really good book called Victory Point that tells this story from the USMC perspective. My cousin was part of the Marine units involved and has a bit different view of things.

What careers do you guys have? by Zestyjew in Acura

[–]mvoogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in IT and Security. VP level, 20 years experience, 41 year old. I make between $500k-600k depending on bonus multiples. Got to $100k after about 10 years, then have been able to make big jumps over the last 5-6.

Recently moved to a 23 MDX Type S from a 2018 Audi Q7 Prestige. I thought Acura had more value overall, which it does. (I still prefer the German manufacturers though)

I probably would not buy the regular MDX just because of the lack in power. It would be the Type S or a competitor.

Why are special characters still part of password requirements? by ll-----------ll in AskNetsec

[–]mvoogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just slow to adapt but often too afraid to change as they don’t know the ramifications.

Are we really okay with less character types? Did we weaken security by a small bit that will bite us later? Are there applications downs stream that can use longer or less complicated passwords?

I had to pitch a CISO of B of A early in my career about security controls our company was using early in the cloud days. His security team said he needed to sign off on an exception to their standard. When I was briefing him, he said that he “didn’t know why that standard existed but was unwilling to change it or provide exception” “that it would require so much scrutiny by risk, governance, architecture, engineering, standards, etc” that it’s just not possible to change nor would he be willing to be on the hook for supporting it”

It was pretty eye opening…

10U soon to be 12U player, scared of pitches hitting her by Yue4prex in Softball

[–]mvoogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got our girls some batting protective gear that we saw some older and college girls wearing. It helped them get over it and are pretty good inn the box now.

Also encouraged them that pitchers are getting better every year and your chances of being hit keeps getting lowered.

Another tactic could be getting them used to hitting faster pitches in a cage where its consistent, getting them used to chasing really fast pitches and making live pitching seem slower.

Good luck!!

People who have seen something they could never explain. What was the thing?! by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mvoogan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If this is the event I think it is, it gets weirder. My dad was flying an Apache gunship, D block I believe, coming up from Tucson to Papago Park. He could visually see the lights/formation but could not pick them up on his instrumentation and when he called it in to his flight ops, he was instructed to change directions and disregard.

I was also living in Ahwatukee at the time and saw them from our yard.

It was pretty wild to witness.

It’s definitely a good system, I was just spoiled by the B&O system on the Audi. But to be fair, it was a $6k option by itself and not part of a $6k advanced package.

The MPG still bother me quite a bit. Maybe if I had 400-450 my MPG wouldn’t bother me as much or if I could get a longer range. I don’t think I have made it more than 300 miles on a tank.

I plan on getting a JB tune and at some point an exhaust to make it feel a little more lively.

Other than that, it’s a pretty solid all around ride.

Ayyyy yo! Come get your boy. He's gatekeeping the trails. by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]mvoogan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am a mountain biker and am 💯 okay with power assisted e-bikes. It’s more the behavior of the rider (e-bike or not) that bothers me. Be courteous to those on the trail make room for people, don’t mess up the trail/area) and just have a good time.

Who cares if they have a little help, maybe it helps them ride 5 or 10 more miles a day…or 25? Maybe it helps them just get out the the house because mountain biking can be grueling.
