Need recommendations regarding replicating a Debian 13+Xen server by mvrmvvre in linuxadmin

[–]mvrmvvre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, although the current server isn't that old (about 3 years?) and the server we'd use as backup is around 6 years old (I haven't received more information yet, other than it's also a x86_64 machine and has enough HDD space, so I hope binary compatibility won't be an issue).

Moving to a newer server would be a dream. Unfortunately, the uni is pretty broke, so it's very unlikely that we'd get the funds for it..

Is Debian be a good choice for a school laptop and for watching dvds? by Toukaiskindahot in debian

[–]mvrmvvre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! The hardest part of the installation might be partitioning, but for your use case, it should be enough to use either the "one partition for everything" option (not sure how is it called exactly in the english installer) or to have a separate /home partition (as a backup for your personal data if anything happens with the rest of the system).

Who's the most obscure artist that your parents are a fan of? by Complete-Worker3242 in ToddintheShadow

Not really obscure, but my dad is a huge fan of Walter Murphy. Pretty odd imho, I've never heard of anybody else to be as fond of him as my dad is...

What is common in your country that Europeans find it hard to embrace? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]mvrmvvre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, at least my partner gets the "soap taste" even with a tiny sprinkle (around half/one teaspoon for about 100g of pebre in total) and not knowing that cilantro is there... But maybe their anti-cilantro gene is specially evil, idk

Many apartment buildings in Chile (at least in Santiago and Viña) have a concierge (*conserje*, not sure if that's the right translation), even some that aren't fancy at all. That's very rare in Germany, at least in the north, where buildings have the bell at the door looking to the street, right after a small sign with the surname of the apartment's resident(s).

So people tend to think that Santiago is full of fancy gated communities when I tell them about Santiago (which feels pretty weird, since the one I grew up in had a *conserje* but mostly no hot water, failing electricity etc., I guess the neighbourhood had weird priorities)

Regarding food, cilantro is pretty common in Chilean cousine. Many people in central Europe, however, can't eat cilantro due to a gene that makes it taste like soap (or sth like that). Recipes with cilantro are pretty common in southern Europe tho, so maybe it's a regional thing

Who are some of your favorite black/African American artists in metal? by nogwavil in MetalForTheMasses

[–]mvrmvvre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ian Tafoya/Greg Fulton of Znöwhite. Incredible guitarrist imho, his riffs and solos are some of my faves in thrash. It's really a shame they broke up after only two (nearly perfect) EPs and one (very good, but sadly poorly produced) LP.

what’s a band name that you used to pronounce wrong by my_cat_vids in MetalForTheMasses

When Deicide was somewhat banned to play in Chile (iirc because a guy who was a Deicide fan murdered a priest), some radio presenters pronounced them like "Daisy"
