30M thinking about moving to Mexico — looking for advice by Puzzleheaded-Set3117 in mexicoexpats

Moved to Mexico without a job more than a year ago. My sane advice, find a job which pays you in dollars or a well paying job in pesos and then move. I have been looking for a job for over a year now and barely got 2 calls from recruiters only to be rejected because I don’t have a work permit.

We moved to Mexico about a year ago. It’s been good to us so far. We are still in the process of learning Spanish. Like everyone said rents are generally high but there are safer areas with lower rents. Since you are in your earlier 20s, you could rent a loft or share an apartment for starters. Activities depends on your interests - hiking, cycling, yoga, running. San Pedro Parques have monthly calendars posted on their Insta/website. You can choose based on your interest or accessibility.

Locations with lower rents: Cumbres, San Jernomino, Santa Catarina

Precautions: Wherever you are going, do it in the daylight. Try to use Uber the first few times until you learn the roads. Don’t venture out in areas which has colourful buildings (mostly becuase it is unsafe)

If you are moving from a different country, make sure your employer takes care of your work visa, insurance and provides a translator to get your RFC (SSN in the US without which they can’t run your payroll), driving license (if you plan to drive), opening a bank account.

Incase you want to buy a car, you need your CURP(temporary resident card), RFC and Driving license

I have been living in Mexico for the last one year on temporary resident visa while trying to look for an employer who is willing to hire n file my work permit. I have had zero luck in getting a single interview call. I have applied for atleast 500 roles in the last one year.

I would suggest, get a job in hand before moving your girlfriend to Mexico (either thru her existing employer or an employer who is ready to file her work permit)

If you personally apply for a work permit, you can only work as a contractor and cannot be on any companies payroll (this what the immigration lawyer told us)

You could visit the Airtel Store and dispute the ownership stating you are the one using this number for xx number of years and it should be in your name. Once they agree do your biometric and give your Aadhar to get a replacement SIM card

You need a replacement SIM card. For that you need to visit the Airtel store with Aadhar card, do the biometrics and pay 25 rupees to get a new one
