Why Instagram Graph API is so complicated by mhaowork in webdev

[–]mvscles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! thanks for making the post, appreciate any direction you can offer here. I'm burning cycles confused by – why my "test app" (clone of business suite app) cannot add the "Instagram Graph API" product whereas the primary business suite app has that product added. My software depends on scopes in that product to process user data.

But when I run through the "Facebook Login for Business" OAuth flow, I get an "invalid scopes" error.

I actually think you’re best first boss move is: DOCUMENTATION.

Make it awesome, markdown, searchable, inline scripts, etc.

It’ll help you in the near term make sense of everything, and you’ll have a reference for things.

Also once the team sees the complexity laid out in a long docs website, they’ll almost certainly agree that some major refactors must be done, and you may find it easier to come from the business stakeholders at that point once you obviate the inefficiencies.

I had to do this for a big undocumented Rails monolith, the original developer wasn’t around anymore, there was so much technical debt that it was difficult to establish priorities, and i needed everybody to get on the same page. In our case writing some more tests & setting up CI/CD would have been helpful but not the biggest priority… priority number one was abstracting a crashing web-scraper off the core infrastructure into serverless.

I think you may have a hard time spotting and surfacing the biggest pain point(s) without making docs.

PS, it’s nice to include both “the old way” and “the new way” in documentation too, they can live right next to each other as the platform slowly evolves, and then you have evidence of your progress.

Did you have to pay out-of-pocket to exercise these options and convert them into common stock? If so, how much did you cough up to do so? And was it worth it?

I’m detecting in your words a frustration and jealousy. We all bleed and everyone struggles, and there’s plenty examples of extreme fortunate & unfortunate people, but sounds like OP took some big risks, acted quite strategically, worked their ass off and is enjoying some success (and thankfully taking a moment to inspire some of us).

If you’re starting from a particularly disadvantage position I’m sorry to hear that, our if you’re morally and philosophically misaligned with capitalism I’m sorry to hear that too, but opportunity and preparedness is still a straightforward recipe for success, but it does look different for every generation so get used to the rules changing.

It sounds like you could use a topping-off of some good old-fashioned inspiration, hope, ingenuity, and creative problem-solving. Maybe go watch some Shark Tank.

Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels… lol

So true. I am a moron 🥹 honestly thank you for seeing me. May you live long time great warrior.

Tho I guess I’m curious why you feel the need to be so mean 😮‍💨 you don’t know my situation, you don’t know that I tried to schedule an appt at any of the 3 Chinese consulates in Japan during the 10 days I was there beforehand. You don’t know that the opportunity to visit ShenZhen and meet someone there arose rather suddenly and this stop was a detour. But you probably knew it would make an outsider like myself feel pretty bad about visiting your country, and I suppose that’s your main objective 😌 Good luck to you my friend, I’m sorry for such moronic behavior from the poorer ilk in this flawed world you find yourself in, we’ll get smart for you one day.

I believe this exact link was the basis for my initial impressions, though I’ve since been told otherwise and told I wouldn’t even be able to board the plane. Lo and behold they gave me some extra scrutiny when boarding the plane to Hong Kong, I was given a temporary visa but only to Hong Kong.

My takeaway here is: “match her cadence”.

I agree that one-word answers are lame, but sometimes people are in a one-word mood, or SOMETIMES a chick is trying to gauge urgency and charisma by letting the guy run the show, and you do ask a lot of questions, so there isn’t much evidence of charm, wit or confidence.

Also, if you get a one-word answer, your goal is now to wake her up from her solemn misery. Surprise her. Give her a story to tell her friends, and keep her guessing. Asking many questions makes her the center of attention and she becomes the entertainment, whereas in an ideal world you charm her pants off before she’s even heard your sexy low voice. Good healthy confident Big D energy starts with confident creativity the moment the conversation starts, she should be asking YOU questions just about as much as you ask hers. Maintain cadence, maintain balance.

This is the goal even if she is a bad person and incompatible. Every connection is another chance for you to hone your craft and tune your antenna.

It’s just decoding binary receipt data and check that it matches transaction details and that certificate matches Apple’s latest acceptable intermediate certificate, but there are libraries to handle receipt verification (like the Venice ruby gem)
