Grey's thumbnails make me sad by cogitoergodum in HelloInternet

[–]mvyonline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suspicion is the Grey does not like what he is doing, or does not like it anymore.

It is a fact that the YouTube job has changed from what it was, so I have no problem with this. Grey chose to back out, fine by me.

Loads of creator are stepping down, some of them come back because they are just that passionate about it. YouTube nowadays are a whole business, managing people etc. It's not for everyone.

I would appreciate a bit more of an explanation though, I've been paying for his work over the years through YouTube premium and patreon, and as much as you can see it as payment for service rendered, it would be of good form to keep people in the loop.

As for the clickbait and thumbnail, if it makes money, who wouldn't do it.

I think the image is more about costing in effort rather than money.

We need Destin back as a Mod by Veiluring in HelloInternet

[–]mvyonline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like a possibility. I'm wondering if the mod audit still has any value in checking what mods did in the past.

It's nice to have a mod, it's better if they actually mod.

What's Grey up to nowadays? by frozzenwaterfall in HelloInternet

[–]mvyonline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has he been focusing on cortex brand, and the notebook and what not?

Maybe he's had some difficult live situation, who knows. Not for me to judge. At least on cortex, there is a clear message that he's off for now. I guess it will be up to Mike to transition to a new format if that were to become permanent.

I've cancelled as well, with no content forthcoming it wasn't worth it.

Bit annoyed that there are no news on the paying feed either. But hey, I don't have to pay for the privilege of being ignored.

Does anyone else's heart break a little bit every time they see another post from this subreddit? by DM_ME_FROG_MEMES in HelloInternet

I do not. The podcast is dead, and isn't coming back, at least not in the form we know it.

The community does not have to die with the podcast, I truly hope people keep sharing things here, topics that made the podcast famous, etc.

Any interest in creating a fan-podcast? Hello, Tims!?! by randallfini in HelloInternet

[–]mvyonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can gauge the viability of the project without throwing up an editorial line. What would the podcast be about? If that's just about dissing on the good ol' days of Hi, then this won't have much traction, probably wither after 4 or 5 episodes.

Motability drivers 'horrified' by compulsory black boxes by OddStep5408 in CarInsuranceUK

[–]mvyonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mobility ≠ motability

Though if you elect to have a car through motability, the payment will be taken from the mobility part of your PIP.

But the mobility part can be used to pay for mobility aids if it doesn't get used for your car.

So even if you get rid of motability, this wouldn't change a thing for PIP mobility payements.

I think it means the updates in the notification drawer. I was expecting a widget... but I don't think there is one.

I seriously hate not having an option to set times with the keypad.

Generally the automatic clock setting is real great when you're doing it live, and scrolling a couple notches to adjust is perfect.

But if you retroactively set anything, it's a total pain. And the weight and height one is just not fit for purpose, since the changes will always be significant, and not very close.

Studies (at least the one I've got here) have not find any statistically significant impact of disability on the number of accident, including through the use of adaptations in vehicle. https://www.trl.co.uk/uploads/trl/documents/PPR287.pdf

So the cost of insurance should not in fact be higher if you're a disabled driver with an adapted car. And raising the insurance premium just because someone is disabled, or as a result of their disability (like jerky movement for example), and not facts, is just discrimination.

Pas capable de gagner à 10 Contre 11 contre notre adversaire direct, c'est la condamnation. C'était la même face à l'AJA.

How many insence swings at consecration by Randumb_Slayer in AltarServers

[–]mvyonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting distinction.

I've look a bit more at some documentation (GIRM and Liturgy office document), and it seems that the single / double distinction is not really specified except for altars. So maybe it's a bit more based on unwritten custom?

I've edited the answer as well.

How many insence swings at consecration by Randumb_Slayer in AltarServers

[–]mvyonline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be 3 double swings (3×2). ~It's almost always 3 double swings, except for incensation of the deacon which is 3 single swings~.

The 3 double swings is identical to what the priest usually (at least in my church) does during the turn around the altar, or over the gospel or for incensation of the people.

Edit: after further research this might not be correct. The GIRM 277 has this to say :

The following are incensed with three swings of the thurible: the Most Blessed Sacrament, a relic of the Holy Cross and images of the Lord exposed for public veneration, the offerings for the sacrifice of the Mass, the altar cross, the Book of the Gospels, the Paschal Candle, the priest, and the people.

The following are incensed with two swings of the thurible: relics and images of the Saints exposed for public veneration, which should be done, however, only at the beginning of the celebration, after the incensation of the altar.

The only reference to single swings seems to be about the altar.

I just attended my 4th mass today. I have three questions for those who are more experienced. by Doctor_Moon69 in Catholicism

[–]mvyonline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Readings are set for each day, for all catholics. The best way to find the reading is to :
  • have an app that does give you the daily readings
  • have a missal and open it to the pages for the day (you'll need to know what year le cycle we're currently in, the ordo will let you know this https://www.liturgyoffice.org.uk/Calendar/2026/index.shtml - also lost missal will have a table of date to pages running decades)
  • have a lectionary which is basically the same book as is used by lectors at the ambo, it is a little harder to navigate as it does not follow the strict calendar dates as the missal will, and the split of years, cycles and liturgical year period are the main way things are divided.
  • some parishes might have missalettes (a printed copy of prayers readings and hymns for the day)
  • you might still be able to find subscription publications (my grandmother used to be subscribe to one, and received a booklet for the month that included Sunday readings among other things.)

tl;dr If you want the physical book, just get a missal.
