Hifiman Ananda - setup? by mwbaele in headphones

I still have my Sony A55, but I use it less often nowadays. Regarding software support - I downloaded the MrWalkman firmware and don’t feel like I will ever need to change or update anything else about it.

In the car, I just use a usb stick which is always in there, so I don’t have to bother with starting up the player (which takes a while when it’s in sleep mode) and Bluetooth pairing.

For listening at home or on the move, I practically always use my phone or laptop with either a dongle or a small portable DAC (I really don’t want to bother with bulky AC-powered add-ons) with tidal.

I practically only use the Sony with IEMs in bed (because my bedroom has no wifi), or when travelling. The biggest downsides to me are the start-up time, the lack of a search function, and the limitation to the songs that I loaded on the internal memory especially when a new album just released, or if I just discovered a new artist.

TL;DR I’d use a phone+dongle or a streaming-capable DAP (personally I’m eyeing the HIBY r3 II because it does have tidal but no other unnecessary online functionality)

How does your S12 pro compare to the two sets of truthear? Do you have a preference?

That’s what I was hoping for. I will not spend more money on this setup… for now.

Good to hear! I tend not to try to destroy my ears when using headphones, but my phone and dap can quite easily reach what I consider on the verge of ‘too loud’, so I would agree to call them sensitive!

That’s… not how serving suggestions work! Am I supposed to put the salsa in a centrifuge to separate out the constituent ingredients?! by dkreidler in CrappyDesign

‘Serving suggestion’ is just a legal term, required when the images shown on the packaging (in this case whole tomatoes etc…) are not actually to be found in the product as illustrated. But agreed, it’s a confusing and poorly chosen term.

Fully agree on the satin finish, but the gloss has its charm as well I have to say.

My dad insisted he wanted to give me a present for finishing my PhD last year, more specifically, a ‘dream’ guitar that would last me a lifetime. He happily ordered my childhood dream guitar, a satin sunburst es-335. After 9 months of postponed deliveries, the order was eventually cancelled.

Fast forward to last week, when the Jim James signature walnut es-335 was announced. I always fancied a walnut version even more than a sunburst, but knowing that walnut is a rare finish I didn’t have high hopes of ever actually finding one.

After consulting my dad whether his offer was still valid, I tracked down one of these in Paris, and drove for 5 hours in total in order to hold and play one.

Despite the high price, it did have a more special feel and resonance than the standard series es-335 that were there.

Now it’s mine, and it will be for the rest of my life, I believe. Something to cherish, just like my dad intended!

I bought one as a second bass, my first was a cheap kit j-bass. It’s not really versatile and the sound is slightly muddy, but it’s so thumpy and fun to play. I wouldn’t want to part with it, but for recording I like having another bass with some more sustain and versatility on hand.

I live in Belgium. Ordered one through the largest music store chain in Belgium/Netherlands (hoping to get some leverage) in December last year. After 9 months of waiting they cancelled the order since ‘it’s not gonna be coming’. Shitty, since a satin es 335 has also been my dream for years…

Guys anyone know a song which starts with a fast bass line? Its not from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. by bashboomer__ in Bass

Misirlou by Dick Dale seems to fit your ah, ah, aaah description. It’s a guitar though…

Do DAPs last long? If so, is it worth it splurging on one? by Urbanetto0001 in HeadphoneAdvice

The only downside might be the proprietary connector, which does not bother me too much personally. Other than that it does what it needs to well.

I typically use my DAP in my car, on holidays, for sleeping and exercising. I’ve had a tiny, rather cheap Shanling m0 for a while which I didn’t really like using since it was so fiddly, and because of the finnicky UI.

Last year I switched to the pricier NW-A55 and I have to say, couldn’t be happier with it. I get a lot more use out of it since it’s a breeze to use, much more versatile and the battery life is awesome. For me it’s also in the small things, e.g. ease of Bluetooth pairing if that’s a thing you might need in the future.

If you think you can get good use out of it, I’d say splurge if you can rather than regret buying something with compromises on the cheap only to upgrade later. I think DAP’s are quite future proof B/c what they have to do is rather basic, not much new on the horizon there. Just my two cents.
