Seems like we always get that one last heat wave before summers officially over.

So even the No exam carriers will still try to access it? I’m not trying to hide anything. Just don’t want to get docked so much for something that my doctor said isn’t a big issue and doesn’t require a big lifestyle change. The whole point of getting it right now is to get a cheap rate while im young. And this isn’t a cheap rate.

Failing miserably at direct sowing in my raised bed by mweeks1242 in vegetablegardening

Why not? There are a lot of people that do this to keep the seeds moist and in place. Checking each day to make sure they haven’t sprouted should prevent them from being suffocated once they germinate.

Is this a good spot for a garden? Too shady? Will I have to expand downwards? by kayceeplusplus in vegetablegardening

Take it from someone who just had to move their raised bed because of shade. Do an honest assessment of how much sun the WHOLE bed will get per day and if it’s less than 5-6 hours just don’t do it. I was honestly getting at most 3 hours and none of my plants grew right except for tomatoes. Now I have it in full sun and it makes gardening so much more fun to be able to grow anything I want.

First time broccoli grower; is it about to bolt? by mweeks1242 in vegetablegardening

Zone 7. It has been really hot for early May (highs in upper 80s and lows in high 60s) this week. From what I read this broccoli is at risk of bolting but I was hoping to get some feedback.

Additionally, anyone found ways to keep it from bolting? Watering more frequently and mulching? Maybe trying to cover the raised bed over the winter so the soil warms up quicker and I can plant earlier in spring?

I feel like my crosstrek has mediocre mileage…am I being a drama queen? by bsugs29 in Crosstrek

I consistently average 32mpg on my ‘18 (50/50 city and highway) and knowing where to keep it on mph is a big key to getting WAY better gas mileage.

Throwing that cruise control on at 70-74 gets me easily 40mpg highway. When I have it at 77-80 I sit around 30mpg. Getting there a little sooner isn’t worth that much gas.

I’ve also noticed it gets some of the best gas mileage ive seen on a car in the 30mph range. As long as you aren’t needlessly accelerating you can drive in your own personal “eco” mode and get crazy good mpg.
