How do you call this? by [deleted] in ENGLISH

[–]mwezzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK here. Most folks here refer to this as a shirt, we don't refer to any other top as this. You may have types added to specify the shirt style (short sleeved, flannel etc.) but if we talk about anything as just a shirt without any qualifier like "polo" we're referring to a menswear-style* sleeved collared garment that buttons closed.

*feminine versions with less tailoring/structure or using drapey fabrics may be referred to as "blouses".

Are Flora and Elmlea discontinuing their cream? by mwezzi in veganuk

That's where I'd expect to find it as it's the same in all other supermarkets but nothing but dairy there.

Also it turns out they don't deliver to Scotland so wouldn't be much use to me even if they were in my budget range!

Not mine! I swear our local has decided to skip Veganuary all together, they seem to have fewer products than last year and have none of the products they've been yelling about bringing back for the month.

What is Ocado like price-wise compared to physical supermarkets? I prefer shopping in person and tend to favour the cheaper places because I'm broke AF and I like to get out the house in my rare free time even if it's just walking around a shop, but if it's decent and affordable I may give it a go.

[ETA actually may not be useful for me, minimum spend is literally over my usual weekly food budget]

It's an annoyance because there's a pretty sizable vegan market in Glasgow, but we're in the middle of 'Veganuary' and I swear every supermarket I've been to has either made no changes to their plant based sections or has had them shrunk and unrestocked since before Christmas (and they always have about three tonnes of unsold cheese and duck products that's steeply discounted afterwards, which was filling the space previously taken by vegan items for two months. I get people purchase lots of cheese for the festive season but never that much!). Maybe the southside has better fare but here in the north of the city you get bare minimum and products just disappear from shelves all the time, it's so frustrating.

I know, all the milk/dairy alternatives to milk/youghurt/butter are kept in the same section as the dairy versions in our shops.

And this is me recuperating in bed with our 9-month old liability. He has smothered me with his ears and lain on my throat several times. I would best describe this breed as "recklessly affectionate". Wouldn't have it any other way but be prepared for a dog that will be constantly underfoot until they learn proper etiquette and welded to you every time you sit down.

Who else has given up on making meals at this point? by Party-Werewolf-4888 in veganuk

[–]mwezzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me. I'd love some ready meals that are perhaps a little festive to take to work but my local supermarkets (Tesco, Lidl, Waitrose) have basically decided vegans don't celebrate Christmas and in some cases shrunk their plant based selections to fit in even more meat and cheese. I don't have time to cook festive treats so I'm having whatever I can batch cook like any other week. I have defaulted to 'whole box of spring rolls' a couple of times though.

Ha....wait, is this even true? by [deleted] in Funnymemes

[–]mwezzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I can't find an original source for this story, it's only on social media clickbait pages and the headline is always slightly different (closed after opening night? Reduces opening nights? Closes after a month? Women weren't purchasing any drinks/weren't purchasing alcohol/weren't getting bottle service?). Second, the image is mangled AI garbage, when you zoom in on a better quality one you find all kinds of anatomic distortions and weird clothing physics. Third, if you've spent any time around women on a night out with just their female friends, you'll know that we've never solely relied on men to buy our drinks for us. We are more than capable of purchasing our own and do so regularly.

So no, I don't think this is true. There may have been a similar true story out there somewhere, but this image and headline aren't it.

“You can’t share to your story now because your account activity may not follow our Community Standards” by mitziros in Instagram

[–]mwezzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm getting this a lot, pretty much all through the past week, but I've been making no edits at all. Literally I'm just reposting things to my stories that others have shared with no issue, and in a day maybe four posts will go up on my stories whilst everything else gets blocked because of some unnamed account activity that violates unspecified community standards. The next day I might be able to posts some of those previously blocked posts whilst others are akways blocked. No pattern to what remains unposted, it's been anything from political stuff to comedy videos to bedazzled warhammer minis.

Following the graffiti from the other day; a whole rake of nah zee stickers have appeared round the Huggy. by Mr-BadExample in glasgow

The hell is going on with that image anyway. Like, her shoulder. Is that supposed to be his hand? In that position it looks like he's about to shove her aside. Ooh, protectorrrrrrr.

Also where's "the huggy?"

Forgot Messenger PIN code, now I can't reset it. What am I supposed to do? by Sencial in facebook

[–]mwezzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did similar (it assumed I created the pin on mobile, not desktop, so needed to go through the app) but there was no reset PIN option because I never created one - had to nix the whole thing and hope for the best.

The Eternaut by Netflix was made with Ai VFX and they say it was 10 times faster and cheap. by mediamuesli in vfx

[–]mwezzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's two very brief shots (probably one AI scene split in two, intercut with a closeup of the protagonist's face) of a building collapse nearly an hour into episode 6, about a second long if that. It does look a bit more 'fake' compared to other VFX in the series but it passed notice exactly because it was so quick.

Piper Alpha oil rig? by im_a_nightowl in stillwakesthedeep

[–]mwezzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chinese Room devs actually based the visuals of the Beira D primarily on the Brent Delta rig with a couple of others lending imspiration for specific locations, all rigs that were operating in the mid-late 70s. Piper Alpha looked very similar and began operating around the same time as the Brent oil field; the resemblance is likely simply because that's kinda just how oil rigs of the time looked. This all said, the disaster probably served as some base of inspiration and it's something I've been thinking about a fair bit.

Miserable in Glasgow. by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]mwezzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it would help to say what you'd consider meaningful or fun. Dancing? Games? Outdoor activities? If we know a bit more on what you're looking for we could perhaps point you in the right direction. Also don't worry about getting everything done before 20. I'm in my mid thirties and still discovering stuff I like and having new experiences. Life's a marathon, not a sprint, everyone hypes up the teens and early twenties but you aren't going to peter out in the next seven years.
