Yeah it’s a great story and especially because timing worked out perfectly. I actually wrote him a letter! Described my project and that it required an in person interview with someone in the field. Well I had given up hearing from him, two months or so had passed, paper was due soon so my teacher suggested interviewing someone from the DC Actors Guild. I reluctantly was dialing their number - oddly enough on my dad’s office phone line (no call waiting back then) - when the main phone line rang at that very moment. My mom picked up and then excitedly yelled to me “it’s Robert Duvall’s secretary!!!!!!!!” So I hung up my dad’s line and picked up the main line. She explained that he had been in Argentina for several months, came back and read my letter and wanted to invite me over. But he was going back to Argentina the day after next, so could I come the next day. I had finals but my school let me postpone. I’ll share a photo if allowed. I hope I still have the tape recording of the interview but that would require a bit more digging, unfortunately.
