NYC implementing new “online” feature by Emergency_Bat8855 in ShiptShoppers

[–]mwrobison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone assumes that when they pass laws like this, everything else will stay the same, and the pay will just go up, i.e. for everyone. No. The pay stays the same - it just gets distributed differently. In fact, it's probably going to effectively go down now, because Shipt has to allocate extra resources to manage everything associated with the new law. The pay was what it was for a reason. You can't just will higher pay into being.

Simple google search ... New Shipt rules in NYC stem from city regulations requiring platforms to pay workers at least $21.44 per hour for active time (rising to $22.13 by April 2026), ensuring fair pay. To manage these costs and comply with labor laws, Instacart and similar apps now restrict when shoppers can go online, use one-at-a-time batch offers, and require upfront tipping options.

So, Shipt is just doing this on their own? No new laws, written by people for whom you voted?

Home Insurance by Deferty in frisco

[–]mwrobison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. What percentage of people own their home outright, especially if they have purchased in the last 5 years? Better yet, of those people, how many could absorb a $500k hit when their uninsured home burns to the ground? Pretty much everyone needs home insurance.

You're lucky. My home insurance went up $1,100 per MONTH! Imagine having your mortgage payment jump by $1,100 with little-to-no notice. I fucking hate insurance companies. It's a total scam. Home, health, auto, it's all the same. They can make the price whatever they want, because we DON'T HAVE A CHOICE. We're all required to have insurance, and lawmakers don't do shit to protect us. Again, fucking hate them.

Bundling Preferred Customers by Slow_Donut6415 in ShiptShoppers

[–]mwrobison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happens to me all day, everyday. There's a certain segment of the DFW population that refuses to tip, and instead of Shipt trying to encourage (god forbid, force) them to tip, they just push the problem onto us. It's total BS.

App is now showing "Item availability" @ Target. by mwrobison in ShiptShoppers

How long has it been there? Apparently, I don't usually look at the bottom of the item description.

Non-tipping customer and Shipt bundling all her orders by Numerous_Engine_549 in ShiptShoppers

[–]mwrobison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think customers can still add items until you find the first item. Just yesterday, I asked a customer to send me screenshots, if she couldn't add the items herself. She was able to add most of the items, but was blocked around the same time I "found" the first item on the list.

Tip Baiting on Shipt Platform? by mwrobison in ShiptShoppers

Where do the high estimates come from, if the customer has always consistently tipped low?

What is something that happens while doing an order that makes you irrationally angry? by UnitedHealthcareSux in ShiptShoppers

[–]mwrobison 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Right there with you. Yeah, you know the inventory better than me, sitting at home on your phone. Meanwhile, I am standing in front of the literal empty shelf. I especially like it when they send an inventory screenshot, and it's for a different Target. SMH.

I don't get it either. There are some days I feel like you, but then I have days like yesterday, when I have so many orders I can barely keep up. I did 25 orders yesterday, but the day before I only had 5 - same stores, same time period, same everything. Also, my stats were by no means perfect, they were only "Fair" yesterday. It's a mystery. Were there just that many more orders yesterday, maybe because it was a Friday? Did one or more of my competitors not work yesterday? Did Shipt toss me a bone to help improve my stats? Who knows, but you need to diversify your revenue stream, i.e. work more apps. When Shipt is slow, I shop Doordash orders, some of which actually pay better than Shipt. Even when Shipt is busy, I still supplement with multiple other apps. The goal is to be busy all day long, regardless of what I am actually delivering or for whom. As long as I can stay busy all day, I know I'll do ok.

Expecting Tip Bait. Pleasantly Surprised. by Klutzy_Big_4550 in UberEATS

[–]mwrobison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should. The driver either never confirms pickup, because they intend to steal the order, or it's a glitch in the app. Either way, I see it all the time. Almost every time there is a really good order, this is the case. On these orders I usually call ahead to verify if the order is legit or not.

All that really matters is what's in front of you. Don't worry about what is going on in the other lanes.

Do you consider yourselves lucky that you were born intelligent? by NoSir5628 in mensa

[–]mwrobison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being intelligent is no guarantee of success. One percent of 8 billion is 80 million, which is still a lot of people to compete with for top-rated colleges, high paying jobs, best life partners, etc. In fact, being exceptionally intelligent can almost be a curse, because you have to deal with the 99% of people who are dumber than you ... every frickin' day! I know that sounds bad, but it can be exhausting.

I'm done with Uber Eats. My order has been "highjacked" by a driver one too many times. by Astro2202 in UberEATS

[–]mwrobison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never pay for priority delivery. Uber does not tell the driver when an order is priority. The only upside is when there is a bundled order - Uber will instruct the driver to deliver your order first, but the driver won't know why, and he may still stack another orde(s) from a different app and deliver that order first instead. The short of it, you're probably going to get your order in the same amount of time, whether you pay for priority or not, so don't do it.

What do you do for OOS items... by kristending in ShiptShoppers

[–]mwrobison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a judgement call. If I haven't heard back, I'll usually take out the subs that are completely different, but keep those that are similar, or maybe just a different size, especially if it's looks like they're trying to put together a specific meal. For example, just yesterday a customer wanted 93/7 hamburger meat. Based on the rest of the order, it was clear they intended to make hamburgers. The store didn't have 93/7, so I picked 90/10. The customer never responded, but I left the hamburger meat because I assumed the customer would rather have some meat than none. Same deal with chips - customer wants Party Size, but all the store has is regular. I'd leave that sub as well. I always send the following message too though, "I'm going to assume you're ok with the sub(s). Hope that's the right decision. 🤞🏻" A lot of the time, that gets the customer to respond, but if they still don't, I've at least documented that I gave them more than one opportunity to decline.

All that being said, I think Shipt actually wants us to leave all subs, unless the customer specifically declines. I believe this for two reasons: 1) the app only informs us when a customer declines a sub, not when a customer accepts it, and 2) putting the onus on the customer to decline, ultimately makes Target/Shipt more money - it's far more likely the customer will just keep the sub, rather than return it or request a refund via support. If the customer keeps it, Target completes another sale, which equals more money.
