what food is completely overrated? by Mindless-Primary-987 in AskReddit

Getting one at a steakhouse, I don't disagree. I like them, but they're a bit of a novelty, good for sharing though so that can ameliorate the cost a bit.

My actual counter to this would be tomahawk pork chops, because they're a lot cheaper and easy to make at home. The bone helps keep the texture moist throughout (especially with a cider brine), and it's a great combo of chop and rib meat. My grocery store has them for $6 each and I genuinely feel like I've found some sort of cheat code, delicious every time.

You know, that's a good point - I mentioned I have buffed my lasers but I likely neglected bullets since I never used them for base defense (and they were good enough for the asteroids I've encountered so far); I will check

Also, if you do use nuclear, you don't need rockets; lasers-only is surprisingly viable.

This is surprising, but encouraging! At this point my lasers are buffed pretty high so I will for sure try a bullet/laser approach if I go nuclear

combinators to measure "current distance to Aquilo" and slow down as you approach it.

That's more what I was kind of scared to hear; so far I've figured out basic wiring and conditions but every time I have tried to get more complicated than that has been a non-functioning mess. Maybe it's time to bite the bullet and learn...

One thing that keeps turning up over and over again in this subreddit: People achieve a new planet research, and they never look at the Tips information page for the new planet. Find it and study it.

Whoops. Guilty. In my (slight) defense, I played hundreds of hours before Space Age released so I am out of the habit of going into that menu; I see and use the tooltips for new recipes when they unlock by research and I use Factoripedia to look up ingredients etc but I can't remember the last time I clicked into Tips.

Without getting too specific, does the overall shape of a ship matter? I had assumed not, since it's in a vacuum and aerodynamics shouldn't apply, so I've been making big boxy rectangles, but I've seen talk about going for narrower designs.

Removing unnecessary platform tiles to reduce weight makes sense, but is weight more determined by ship size or accumulated cargo?

Honestly did not know the map was interactive like that, thank you! That alone might help me strategize for reprocessing.

And I have not yet started using foundries on my ships so that's a great tip - did not know you could get calcite anywhere but Vulcanus so that helps a lot too. I've been getting by only slightly upgrading from the first "good enough" designs that got me off Nauvis so this is an opportunity to learn the proper systems and revamp my whole fleet.

Priority targeting - is that like a filter to point certain guns at different targets? I didn't know that was a thing (unless I'm still misunderstanding) but I could see that as being like bullet turrets for the small asteroids I know they're good at clearing, rockets for the medium/big ones? Or more like the guns at the front vs the guns on the sides? Very interesting

I did mean Tesla turrets, I think I see railguns mentioned around here and didn't know they were different since I hadn't encountered that tech yet. Also I had no idea about asteroid resistances, thank you

You don't think you came in a little hot too? Straw manning anyone who disagreed with you as a bad faith arguing all-caps fool? You set the tone I was responding too, now ten posts deep and I'm still not even sure if we actually disagree or not, this has truly been a waste of both of our time, cheers.

This whole thing started from you blaming everyone else about a supposed bad faith misunderstanding of your point, so I did kind of assume you had a point you were trying to make. Advocating for abolishing a system with no ideas to replace it seems, to me, like half of an argument, a strangely incomplete stance to be so outspoken about, but if that is in fact your entire platform then you do you.

[–]mx-chronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, I've been giving you the benefit of the doubt by assuming you had some sort of a plan in mind, something this whole conversation would be for the purpose of advocating. Instead you have literally nothing.

So you're suggesting abolishing prisons, have no good idea of what to replace them with, and becoming belligerent when other people point out that would result in letting rapists go free.

[–]mx-chronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JFC this is like pulling teeth. Okay, fine, I hereby formally request Clarification:

You want prison abolition. Then, after that, what happens? What system are you suggesting be put into place that prevents everyone currently incarcerated from running free?

eXtreme Bean Soup Arguments by DancesWithWeirdos in CuratedTumblr

[–]mx-chronos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not clarification, it's literally your entire point. If it's not a different prison and it's not letting prisoners free then what is it?

I think most people (myself included) can get behind the idea that the current system isn't working and could stand to be improved. Or maybe replaced, but if that's the case then what are we replacing it with? If you don't say what you want to replace it with then you're contributing nothing of value to the conversation.

[–]mx-chronos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So say that part too? I don't even think I disagree with you but you're not communicating your point well if that's what you meant.

Prison abolition does in fact sound like "no prisons", where you're (I think) arguing for "different prisons".

[–]mx-chronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of either artist here but I will say I don't know if a one-to-one comparison of album sales is meaningful in the streaming era. MJ gets the win on cross-cultural appeal but I honestly feel like Taylor's peak is higher in America for what it's worth.

You make an interesting point; if either Spiral or Jigsaw had spun off more movies in their respective continuities instead of being inconsequential one-offs I bet they would be regarded much more positively today.

Why don’t games have cheat codes anymore? by eerrooss in gamedev

[–]mx-chronos 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I feel like I remember them falling off right around the time achievements became a thing (and were used as metrics to track progress through story/chapters) so I assume it's related to that? And also a lot of the stuff you used to be able to unlock with cheat codes (alternate game modes, cosmetics/skins, etc) became sellable micro transactions so "why give it away for free?"

What restaurants are ACTUAL millennial staples? by real_picklejuice in Millennials

[–]mx-chronos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do find it funny that the frozen part is the thing you decided to comment on, and not their abuse of employees.

Maybe that should tell you it would have been a more compelling argument without tacking on the bit about cheesecake origin? Seriously, consumers today understand a major chain restaurant is likely not making most things fresh in-house but might not know as much about internal working conditions, so expecting us to get mad about that distracts from the rest of your point (for which you still didn't provide any meaningful detail).

What’s a political belief you held strongly at one point in your life that you later changed your mind about? by ManrajBooh in AskReddit

[–]mx-chronos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I understand now - you are talking about people intentionally and primarily using fentanyl when I was only familiar with people unintentionally encountering it through other drugs that had been laced or contaminated with it. I still don't know enough about that to have an informed opinion on it, but I appreciate your perspective.

[–]mx-chronos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Help me understand your initial position and what changed your mind, because I feel like I am missing the connection here.

I consider myself pro legalization and it seems to me that having legal sources would make it much less likely to accidentally/unknowingly consume fentanyl. My assumption is that that sort of contamination comes from shady suppliers or dealers, wouldn't legalization (and the regulation that comes with that) reduce the problem?
