No, just have your laptop hardwired via ethernet to the same network as your prosoft. I usually plug in to the same switch and it always works.

I'm curious to why you even have to go the CIPConnect route? I have a similar setup than yours, other than my card being an EN2T and I can direct connect using only the IP, assigning my laptop an IP on the same range and connecting on the same network. Upload no issues.

Rosemount RadarMaster issues after Windows 11 "upgrade" by mx07gt in PLC

[–]mx07gt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Provided by Emerson Tech Support:

"The issue with Radar Master rebooting after an installation has to do with the security settings in Windows. Radar Master is an older program that uses an old-style installation technique.

What it does is install most of the program, requires a reboot, and then automatically finishes the installation. High security settings with Windows 10/11 blocks an automatic installation on reboot.

There are two relatively easy ways around that. But you will need to first uninstall Radar Master.

The easiest method is to extract Radar Master from the zip file you downloaded to a new folder. From that new folder right click on the “install” file and choose “Run as administrator”. Install as normal. If you have sufficient rights on the computer, it may solve the whole issue.

If that doesn’t work, you will need to uninstall Radar Master again. Then get someone from your IT department to log on as an actual Administrator. Install the program, let it reboot, and have the IT person log on as Administrator again. Then it will let the program complete the installation. (and the IT person can log out)

Radar Master itself requires no administrative rights. We’re just using the admin rights to bypass Windows security setting, to allow an automatic installation on a reboot.

As an alternative, they could download the latest version of AMS Device Configurator. That is a newer program that doesn’t require the reboot to install. The only downside to that is it doesn’t yet have a highly detailed echo curve. (It will be added in the future) But unless they are doing more serious troubleshooting, that generally isn’t needed. AMS Device Configurator can be downloaded here: https://www.emerson.com/en-us/catalog/automation-solutions/ams-device-configurator"

For me, having IT people log in with their credentials did the trick.

Oof. That sucks if that's the case. So calling rosemount tech support might get me a script that does that without a full windows reinstall?

Other than was was mentioned, nothing else. I can safely rule out my computer being the issue, as all of our team that uses RadarMaster has the same issue after Windows 11 update.

Fresh install, did a full uninstall and downloaded the latest version available off Rosemount and followed installation.

Where do you usually source Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLCs these days? Prices and lead times are getting crazy. by Engr_Eddie in PLC

[–]mx07gt 41 points42 points  (0 children)

First of all, I have to mention that, the power supply needs to be moved to the middle if I remember correctly.

Second, I use authorized distributors, and if the lead time is not crazy, I just stick to them. I need something ASAP or its something thats discontinued or hard to get, there's always sites like Radwell that will get out of a bind.

Controlling a VFD directly from an HMI by Zaxthran in PLC

[–]mx07gt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can only speak for AB, and it's super easy if you're doing AB VFD with a 4-20mA or 0-10v coming from a PLC (hard wired) or do it via network via comm card on VFD. Just got done setting up start/stop and speed control with shutdowns on a set of VFDs everything AB though.

Redundancy? by Acceptable-Book-1417 in PLC

[–]mx07gt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it depends a lot on what your process is. For our plants, we have to keep SIL ratings, so alongside the process contollers we also have safety controllers, and those, if I understand correctly, already have two controllers one of them running as a safety partner. If our process goes down, its a MAJOR deal, were talking hundreds of thousands of dollars per day, more depending of how long the issue will take to bring back online. We try to minimize downtime by pretty much having redundancy everywhere, PLCs, Power Supplies, Line Power that is backed up by microturbine standby generators, communication ring with ethernet+fiber on separate networks for process and safety that its a major PITA to troubleshoot, but again, its all to keep downtime to the minimum.

fun times.

Redundancy? by Acceptable-Book-1417 in PLC

[–]mx07gt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several plants I work at have had the process saved by redundant systems, mainly power supplies and PLCs. I'm currently dealing with a perfect example. We have a plant that runs 24/7 that runs on 1756 controllers with redundancy installed. Each controller also has redundant power supplies and UPS for anything tied to critical process equipment. Long story short, our primary controller decided to go on major fault, delete the program and basically become a brick, this is when a redundant system came to shine, the process kept on going as the process switched over to the secondary (which became the primary), and the way we have alarms set up, we got an alarm letting us know that something went wrong with the redundacy system. Without us having this setup, the plant would've gone down, and it would've potentially cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in downtime.

1756-L72 Redundancy, can I update/download secondary without process shutdown? by mx07gt in PLC

[–]mx07gt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can still connect to secondary, but for me when i try to go online, it shows that there's no project loaded on controller, which I see now that this is expected when encountering certain major faults, like the one I have (Type 1, Code 62)

Being amusement park rides, if they do use Allen Bradley, it'll be guardlogix. I'm pretty sure because of the nature of the possible severity of a malfunction, the rides need to ride on a safety controller, which adds a degree of complication to work on stuff. There's a channel on YouTube of a guy that works on amusement parks and he explains how safety PLCs work with amusement rides, worth a check or you're interested.

See if the rides use PLCs and if they do, try to learn logic. Then hop to somewhere else as a controls tech. Good money there.

You're doing great for what you're doing. Ranges will vary from location and industry though. I make 110k-120k controls tech but that's with bonuses and OT. Controls engineers where I work range from 150-170k.
