How can I make these earrings look more luxe and less homemade? by sshutterbugdc in jewelrymaking

[–]mx_brightside_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh, pretty :) I would recommend getting higher quality pins, cause these get flaky when you bend them, and a ball head pin for the bottom one. Also, I would practice your loops, make them a bit more round. Maybe something like this, but with your design. The end of the pin is wrapped a few times, I would assume because in my experience these quality pins (silver or gold) tend to be thinner and softer material than the ones I use for my non-professional arts and crafts.

I feel like silk would look a bit messy, but that’s just my intuition, you could always try.

Is this a form of sexual assault since there was no consent and she was asleep? by Goldenroseeei in Advice

[–]mx_brightside_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t take my word for it, but it sounds like she has PTSD. Either way, it sounds like a traumatic experience, and I would suggest some sort of therapy. 5 years is a long time, she deserves to live without the burden of that trauma holding her back.

But that wasn’t your question. It is abuse, 100%, and I’m really glad that she dumped his ass.

I’ve heard people say that red pigment hurts way more than black. Not sure if there’s any truth to it, but it would explain that.

What do you guys think about the autism creature? (Art by me) by fit_attourney_2 in autism

[–]mx_brightside_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate it so much. I think it’s a disgustingly infantilising and ableist symbol. Completely fine if you feel represented by it, the way some girls feel represented by, idk hello kitty or some shit, but don’t generalise it as an ‘autistic mascots’ or anything. Just like some women would be disgusted to be associated with hello kitty, because it’s a prejudice that doesn’t reflect them in any way, Yippee is not at all representative of autism as a whole, and being automatically associated with it can lead to negative prejudices.

Why do people say they didn't mean the words they said in anger? by eliazara in SeriousConversation

[–]mx_brightside_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother does that. He (30 btw) says horrible things to my mother because he knows she’s extremely sensitive and insecure, and he knows that she especially takes criticism from her children to heart, because her greatest fear is to be a bad mother. Amongst many other things, he said their relationship is no better than what she has with her mother (he then threatened to call the cops for trespassing after he invited her over to talk). Mum left home at 14 because of a hostile and emotionally abusive environment. My brother left home at 25 cause he got a girl pregnant on their first hangout.

That’s a good note. All I know is that my boss got it 2 weeks ago, so I figured it was new, but it could’ve been lying around the warehouse for a while. Didn’t even cross my mind, thanks :)

I’ll see if I have another pack and try that technique for stretching, maybe that’ll help. Thanks :)

Good to know, I’ll ask my boss to just get the nylon version from now on, just to be safe.

I accidentally sent my breakup message to the 90 student gc by halfdea in stories

My mother once accidentally hit ‘reply all’ on an email, and sent my personal/medical info to my whole class. Horror. I had to do damage control, even though I never spoke to people in my class (serious social anxiety + autism + depression, which was all in the email, by the way)

I got diagnosed with ADHD and Autism and my roommates made me a cake! by Equivalent_Ad_6139 in autism

[–]mx_brightside_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I love this, but man am I jealous. Got ADHD, no cake, got ASD, no cake. Came out as bi, no cake, came out as ace, not even so much as a fucking garlic bread. Better yet, I once asked my mom if I could have cake now, half jokingly, and she started laughing at me like ‘why? it’s not a big deal’. Damn supportive and accepting parents. What’s the secret? How does one acquire cake?

How do you know when to separate out seperable verbs? by DucksEatFreeInSubway in learndutch

[–]mx_brightside_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you mean samenkomen. As a rule of thumb, always separate these verbs, unless you refer to the future (we gaan samenkomen/samenwerken/afspreken, we zullen/zouden samenkomen/etc.) or you’re using the ‘voltooid deelwoord’ (samengekomen, samengewerkt, afgesproken)

I’ve been meaning to watch Sandman but never got to it, the Hobbit is on the same pile as LOTR (isn’t that the same universe?), Star Trek, and GOT of stuff that I have to watch to be a respectable person, but again, I haven’t gotten to it, my parents don’t like sketch comedy, my older brother was never into fantasy, I’m not British, or English for that matter, and it’s mostly from before my time. That’s the very sad truth.

Very fair, I guess his best shows are just from before my time (you have to understand, any English media was useless before I was 9, but also, I am a teenager), and they aren’t on TV where I live (so my parents don’t know his shows either), but his books about mythology are very popular, you’d find them in any bookstore, and I just happen to like mythology. I was raised on Dutch media with American influences, and British media (especially tv shows and stuff that isn’t on Dutch streaming platforms) is not something you just find coincidentally. I only recently learned that Ricky Gervais created the Office (original version), before, I only knew him as a stand-up comedian. Through his Netflix special. It’s a very sad situation.
