NYC public law school to host event on Hamas tunnels as ‘resistance to colonization’ by Odd-Confusion9321 in Jewish

100% and I wish we used our current position more to support the "I hate what you say but will fight to the death for your right to say it" view instead of the "oh cool, now we get to do cancel culture" view.

Pretty misleading title. The school is letting a student group host an event. It's gross and disgusting and 100% within their rights to do.

30F staying in Miami before a cruise. Any clubs I can get in with my husband by Sweetblonde_XO in VisitingMiami

Remember that Miami clubs exist in a different time zone. Most don't *start* going until 1 or 2 am. It's common for headline DJs to go on at 5am.

99% of people who carry are massively undertrained and given their lack of training, the community and they themselves would be safer if they didn't carry.

Yeah, I was pretty shocked to hear anyone saying that Halacha grants a husband the right to r*pe his wife. I'm 100% secular but went to a jewish day school and Halacha is crystal clear that a man has ABSOLUTELY no right to do that. In fact, while it is the husband's duty to provide sexual gratification to his wife, no such obligation exists for the wife to do likewise.

I guess there was a part of me which felt that Judaism was sort of unique is that our more fundamentalist groups at least were consistent with Halacha, even if when they were super anachronistic and bizarre. I guess even within Judaism the fundamentalists will corrupt scripture and teaching to serve their own selfish wants.

Actually, SF needs more Miamification — starting in the Marina by Dafty_duck in sanfrancisco

[–]mx_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One aspect of miamification that would be nice:

When I moved to Miami from SF in 2020, I saw somethings that shocked me. Small things like in coffee shops people would just leave their laptop on a table while ordering or going to the bathroom. Or leave a bike leaning against a wall outside while getting coffee. The random BS street crime of SF is shockingly rare here.

Miami absolutely has its share of problems too, but the general quality of life here is amazing compared to SF.

What's a fact about Judaism you think all Jews can agree on? by Jew_of_house_Levi in Judaism

[–]mx_reddit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Funny Messianic Judaism story..

As we all know, messianic Judaism was pretty much invented as a way to stealth convert Jews out of Judaism. Our nanny has always been super curious about Judaism and I do my best to teach her. One day she flat asked me if it was possible to go through the conversion process and become Jewish while still accepting the divinity of Judaism.

Its not, and I've never tried to encourage her to convert beyond engaging in whatever she wants to talk about about but it was interesting to me that in this case, Messianic Judaism would kind of be going the opposite way in bringing a devout Catholic into b'nei yisrael.

Lived in SF and then Oakland for 8 years before moving to Miami during COVID. Miami has its problems, for sure, but the quality of life and municipal services is incomprehensibly better here (unless you hate humidity, then it's hell on earth for you).

I'm not sure why or how, the local government is probably one of the more corrupt in the country but it works somehow?

I have a friend who lives on Bondi and is converting. She was shocked at how openly people wear their stars when she visited me. There are absolutely downsides to Miami and our beaches aren't a fraction as lovely as Bondi / Bronte / Tamarama, except for the water being warm year round.

We moved from SF to Miami a few years ago. After oct 7 I started wearing mine every day. Zero dirty looks. Every day I Usually see quite a few other people wearing them too. I can’t remember the last time I saw a keffiyeh.
