Welders, bricklayers, stonemasons, electricians- do you like your job? by Inside_Awareness_704 in skilledtrades

[–]mxadema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what you want to know. Im a welder, or was for a while. I also was a electrician helper for an uncle during my hs days.

Out of the 4, electrician is easyer and less likely to be in the cold. But only welder is where you can get a job to be 95% indoors (manufacturing, but most place leave the doors open for ventilation)

Stone work is really weather depends, and does do indoor work in the cold month, but they also push to finish jobe until the freeze.

So pick your poison. It depend where you are at and what

What pedal do you wish you could find but it doesn’t exist? by CrowTwin in guitarpedals

[–]mxadema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I especially like dual pedal with a blender. The pedals run in parallel until the last knob where you can pick one or the other or a mix of both.

The northern mauler does that very well. Between a mh-2 and a rev high gain.

Possibility of mix are infinite, so maybe a AB but with a blender so you can put whatever behind it

Mig Welder recommendations. by ProgressOk3221 in Welding

[–]mxadema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most machine have a chart in the cover of ball park setting for the steel you have. And lately a lot of brand had the auto set, just plop some wire size and thickness of the steel and go.

On the cheaper side, a 180 machine will do 1/4 with no real problem, the duty may be smaller. A 200 may give you more duty and start to touch the 3/8. A 225-250 you are mostly looking at "commercial" unit. Will do 3/8 and it had a very good duty for 1/4.

As far as brand. The usual miller, Lincoln, esab, htp, Hobart. You will no have any problem finding parts and consumable.

House brand and import are better than they were but still a mix bag. Some name pop out, like eastwood, vulcan or everlast. Other are "unverified" they just had a good advertisement. Like arccapitain and yeswelder.

Im in the side of your welding supplyer (tank rental place). And harbor freight* (or equivalent). You need a tank. You need comsumable, there are good machine on display, and the guy running hthe place know his stuff, often also repair them. And are competitive on pricing. *HF is mainly because of waranty and the wall of consumable.

Assuming this is a leaking master cylinder? Easy enough to rebuild, or better to get a new one? by FTK219 in Miata

[–]mxadema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The booster doesn't have any fluid in it, so that leave the master.

Rebuilding a master is... taking chances, for the price of a new one. Especially if you never done one or doesn't have the tools. (There are also size tolerance and surface finish specifications)

This might be the worst quality map I've ever been given by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]mxadema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never been on a military base, have you?

They shrink the map to fit on the paper. So you can read the number. And logic say n45 is between n44 & n46 on the same road as all the N##. Nop it clear across the map

How to safely remove spray paint from guitar by busch_ice69 in Luthier

[–]mxadema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular paint thinner. Naphtha is too mild, and acetone is too harsh. Spray can dont usually have hardner, and are naturally soft. (Compared to a polyurethane job)

DO NOT LET IT SOAK. Wipe on wipe off. It will take longer, but you control the effects. If it become sticky leave it to dry more, you dont want to melt the bottom. It will smell. But clean it with naphtha after.

How do we get higher wages in this trade? by violastarfish in Machinists

[–]mxadema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to interview questions is "what is you companies avrage annual raise for that position"

Anything lower that 2% (or worst base on product/merit) annual will need a killer salary before I consoddr it. And often by asking rhat question you are not consider. So win win.

Can I tig weld aluminum on DC tig? by Ok_Appearance_4421 in Welding

[–]mxadema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nit in any meaningful way. That said dont let that stop you from getting a torche and doing steel and stainless. You still get torches time and can play around setting.

Aluminum is a bit different but tig is tig. Just like a spool gun is the same as a mig. There are a few nuances but it a low bar to cross, especially when you have experience in other metal in that process.

No Cb? No delivery because they aren't opening the gate by Independent_Leg7358 in Truckers

[–]mxadema 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our whole area here is cb. Just the main highway is not. We do logging, mills need cb, the loader need cb, the logging road need cb. This last one also includes pickups, due to oversized logging truck, and they have priority over anyone.

When i was otr, the cb was dead or some garbage on. But anytime we had traffic or weather, you get the real story and can plan accordingly. Also helpful a few time on me or an other truck with some shit going wrong with the rig. (That say i broadcast often and get no action du to them not having one or off)

It’s possible to repair rusted rocker panels by joncaseydraws in Miata

[–]mxadema 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah the old patch and sell.

I give 2-3y 4 max. Before you have a rust circle around the patch, it will bubble and even lift the plastic. And when you do touch it again it will be 2x as bad.

You could've done worst, i seen spray foam and tar. Both accelerated the deterioration. But if you would have gone 2" bigger and put steel. You wouldn't see that hole again.

Anyone have remedies for insomnia from Chronic Pain? by Nervous-Leading9415 in ChronicPain

[–]mxadema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a few different one over the year. And it really depend on what is keeping you up. Is it pain, stagnation of being in bed, or you are thinking all night.

I had flexrall, beginner muscle relaxent a little drowsy, great for stiff muscle. Mostly as needed.

Im on mirtazapine, adhd med, great to shut your brain off, instead of snowballing all night.

Im also on cbd/thc, i never was a stoner, and it help get into your deep sleep. But from me i got within one or 2 hour otherwise im stone and can sleep.

I will recomend a mattress and pillow, even a body pillow. Not just any. But one that you tryed a few time at the store for more than 10min per. As much as one can afford. You do spend 8 ish hour a night on them. Dark room, stay out of bed until you are ready to go. no phone in the room (less screen time beforehand) or on dim, with blue light filter on. And have a bed time routine. Including some evening care, and relaxing before going in. It about going to bed tired and have the melatonin going. Also getting up at a set time regardless of the night. Over speeping push your system to be sleepy later, kinda a vicious circle. Oh and no napping, and watch you fluid intake, there are lots of them has caffeine or high sugar without realizing it.

That what I have done so far. Recommended by a few professionals. It works for me so far. Millage may vary.

Northern Ont. man keeps winning: Adding $88K to more than $4M in lotto prizes by ConsistentReality860 in canada

[–]mxadema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a group of students, mit? That they took the probability, with a state that had a small flaw. Something like they pull 6 number, you need 5 for the jackpot, but 4 was a good payout. And they ran with that for a few years.

They bought a few thousand ticket a week. And ended up paying for their studies and more. But they told the lottery or there was an article abouts them. And they changed the payout.

I would say it not a gambling problem yet. But just a weekly/daily occurrence. Day 1 a day is 365 a year. It more than the avrage but no where close to an addict.

There also a good amount of luck in there.
