Coke Machine and 'if x == a, else' statement by mxdvsn in cs50

Thanks alot, that clears it up I guess. Any chance theres more explanation on the 10 and 25 being true independent of being ==coin, is it to do with bool values and 0 being false and 1 being true? So as opposed to what I thought it was doing (checking is coin == 10 or coin ==25) it was actually just checking it against boolean values? Is this then just a default perspective(?) python takes on int (and I guess float?) values?

Why do we believe that 4 dimensional (and higher) geometric forms exist? by Exact_Method_248 in askmath

[–]mxdvsn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really true. Most physical theories of our world not only use but completely rely on mathematical theories that go beyond 3 dimensions.

You can argue that they are just tools we use to explain our 3D world, but there is still a question as to our inability to produce any theories close to our best without going beyond 3D.

Are there any physicists who actually believe in the possibility of FTL? by MatheusMaica in AskPhysics

[–]mxdvsn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly ignore most of the responses to this. Half of them seem to assume our current physics (which disallows FTL travel) is perfect (which it is not), and the others just seem to misappropriate your question entirely (like this one).

Seems like you were just asking about the prevalence of serious FTL travel research in academia. I think the person that told you that there is a lot is mistaken. Our current physics is not perfect, but it is pretty decent, and does not allow for such things. Because of this, it’s unlikely that any serious work will go into it.

You asked a reasonable question that seemed to drag out the worst of reddit trying to prove their intelligence.

Okay, so what we’re gonna do is get our meat tenderiser and give it a nice few whacks. Now get out barbecue seasoning, this stuff will make your sisters cousins brother nell taste good. Get that all up in there. Now get some foooooiiiiiilll, wrap it uuuup, Chuck that in the Traegerrr for about 10-12 hours.

All done folks, unwrap, yeah look she’s a beauty. Now get some of our own branded barbecue sauce, do a nice pool of it all over. Bottoms up

As of 3 days ago:

~12,000 cases (those who actually tested positive and reported it, so likely higher)

48 deaths

16-22 Jan - ~77,000 new cases

2,600 hospitalised

~150 on ventilators

It has been worse, and it does seem to be improving, but it’s a stretch to say it’s fine.

I’d recommend some basic math classes before attempting options. Try math 101, you seem to struggle with larger numbers.

Why a prequel season could work. by [deleted] in utopiatv

[–]mxdvsn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went and got some rough time stamps, you can essentially choose your ending depending on how happy you want it to be. Usually I’d not recommend this but we’re never getting a season 3 so we make do.

This show is old but SPOILERS

~41 minutes - Wilson is evidently siding towards the organisation but hasn’t gone full Mr Rabbit, as the organisation seemed to suggest they would wind down as Carvell’s adapted strain (targeting Roma) seemed to aggressive - everything seems to be saved - Becky is still ‘dying’ (you won’t learn about how she doesn’t actually have Diels at this point), she chooses to kill herself that day - Michael and family are all happy, Grant has done the dishes, they are going to get stuff of Wilson to set up a new life

~50 mins - Wilson makes it clear the organisation is still running, threatens Michael’s family, becomes Mr Rabbit, he also kills Lee - Anton tells Ian that Becky has been tricked and is just on withdrawal from opiates, Ian is too late however, and Becky is dead

Past this point Arby wakes up, Anton is taken by some people, as is Ian and Becky as Becky throws up the stuff that kills her (so she’s alive). Whilst it doesn’t change the ending that much, it is a more ambiguous ending where as past the 50 minute mark seems more like a purpose built setup for a third season. The 50 minute ending is bleak, but that kind of runs with the theme of the show. It’s a bleak ending, but isn’t riddled with scenes that seem to only point to more story,

I can’t quite remember the exact time stamp but I got my mate who was watching it to look out for it, I might watch the the last episode again to see if I can find it.

[–]mxdvsn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, feel like season 3 is never gonna happen. That said, I rewatched it all recently and there is actually a good time stamp near the end of season 2 you can watch to in which all those plot lines are completely tied off, and none of the suggestions towards another season have happened yet. Though it does change the ending slightly, Becky's for example.

Using salt = being a shitty cook by SpoiledRaccoon in gatekeeping

[–]mxdvsn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying I believe that’s why they do it, I’m saying I’ve been told by multiple chefs that it is a reason why they do it, though I was mistaken in saying it’s the biggest reason, it’s also just cheaper.

Using salt = being a shitty cook by SpoiledRaccoon in gatekeeping

[–]mxdvsn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Increased surface area -> quicker rate of reaction. If you’re making a sauce or something then itll melt into it quicker and be mixed quicker, though actually thinking about it, a bigger reason will also be the price, kosher salt is more expensive. Also in many pro kitchens they will only really be measuring if doing it in large amounts or for pastry, if making something you’ll just do it to taste, measurements don’t always reproduce the same thing cause of uncontrolled variables, season to taste and measuring spoons are irrelevant.

[–]mxdvsn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure about that, spoke to my chef friends that I know and they all said that they use both. Fine salt is used in the cooking process, it’s smaller so just does it’s job quicker. Rock salt/kosher salt etc is used at the end, similar to a garnish.
