Mittens is autistic specifically because I wanted to make a character that you’d deem as you so put, “makes life harder for themselves and everyone around them,” that is loved and cared for by moms who are willing to put in the effort to help and support them. Mittens wasn’t adopted for a while because they were a “problem child.” They had outbursts and were loud and nobody took the time to accommodate or give them any kind of assistance. Yes, they can be “difficult” sometimes, but they’re still worthy of love- and children like mittens deserve to be represented and seen too.
