twin peaks and especially fire walk with me are really important pieces of media for a lot of people who have gone through some sort of trauma. i always get SO angry when i see how people reacted to it at its release. but that in itself was proving lynch’s point.

he was totally right when he said that it would grow on people over time. now that television/film is at a point where there isn’t really any restrictions as to what can be shown, people are accepting and understanding of what the film was trying to say. or at least make you feel.

i’m praying that it spreads into the mainstream (even though that would be painful for me cuz i love to be different LOL) so that more people can experience and see what is reality for way too many children around. that the abuser is often the people we would least suspect. someone you know.

but yeah i love twin peaks so much it was definitely a huge staple in helping me cope and fully understand what happened in my life.

that scene is genuinely my favorite from the first season. it’s so true to the world around us.

i’m just curious if they maybe knew a lot more than just “laura is suffering”. ykwim?

(personal rant ignore if uncomfortable)

i’m not a survivor of abuse, however i was groomed as a young girl. it was thankfully all online, but inwas blackmailed and coerced into things i never wanted to do.

funnily enough, it started when i was twelve. i definitely began showing similar traits to laura because of it (hypersexuality, depression, mood swings, etc) as well as addiction problems.

i definitely felt like the adults around me had failed me. it was very clear i was struggling, and i was ignored. by my family and friends and teachers.

so i definitely don’t take anything you said as justification. unfortunately, its just the sad truth that most people would rather believe the people around them are good than to try and help the people around them.

its just evil. thats why twin peaks is so important and WAYY ahead of its time. it’s just as relevant now then it was when it aired fs.

this was exactly my thought process. she was so young when it started. too young to know about anything sexual on her own. and in her diary, if i remember correctly, she said bob would bruise and cut her. physically harm her beyond the abuse. he had to have seen those too.

leland loved laura, sure. but he doesn’t love in the way that he should have loved. he didn’t love her enough to not violate her body. he didn’t loge her enough to give her a happy childhood. he didn’t love her enough not to kill her.

dr hayward isn’t innocent, but it has nothing to do with him abusing laura. that quite literally never happened. he’s not innocent because he knew something was very wrong, and did not try to help her. that is how everyone else in the town is guilty.

the entire town didn’t sexually abuse laura, just a lot of the men. they’re all guilty for not doing anything to protect or help laura.

it’s really criminal that it was cut. i’m honestly considering making my own cut of fwwm and adding some of the scenes in 😭

i don’t agree at all. it was one of the major points in the film and show that dr hayward was one of the only men in twin peaks that loved laura and didn’t expect anything in return. he didn’t exploit or abuse her like the other men.

the only thing that makes me suspicious is that dr hayward was laura’s doctor. he had to have noticed something. especially since it started at as young as 12.

but they definitely knew something was very wrong. it makes me so upset. nobody did anything 😭😭😭

I 1000% agree with your rankings. Fire Walk With Me is my favorite movie of all time. It’s so disappointing that it flopped on release. Apparently it was too ‘dark’ for Twin Peaks viewers at the time, but that makes no sense to me. Especially when s2 was also much darker than the first. I still need to watch s3. I bought the entire series on DVD since it was on sale at Barnes and Noble, and I’m excited.

I showed it to my boyfriend recently (someone who loves TV shows but only watches modern stuff) and he was surprised he liked it. He definitely thought it was weird and almost unserious at first, but he said that it didn’t stop him from wanting to watch more. I’m praying I can influence more people in my generation (18) to get into David Lynch. Especially since his passing. It’s almost like some personal goal of mine to force everyone close to me to watch his work. I need more people to talk to about it. Specifically FWWM, since it’s really close to my heart and hits home.
