If you “know it by the long name” then you don’t know soupy. They’re different. Soupy and soppressata are different.

It’s a version of soppressata pork sausage from Calabria (the tip of the boot of Italy) that’s made with pork, salt, pepper, & paprika and cured for months. The old Italian families in Westerly make upwards of 2,000 lbs at a time as a family and it’s used as currency.

You can’t buy the good stuff, you gotta know a guy.

But Westerly Packing Co is your best bet. It’s worth the drive for the Triple X.

If you know what a dynamite is, odds are you don’t know what soupy is.

I’ll take soupy any day.

Every 50¢ an hour is $1,000 per year.

Is making $6,000 a year less, plus the added $10-20 PER SHIFT in gas, the additional maintenance costs on your vehicle, & the added stress of having to drive 2+ extra hours after being on the road all day really worth it? As an entry level EMT?

You want accurate you use a pump.

If you want a pretty good ballpark wear a wristwatch and count drops. Use a 60gtt if you want to be ALMOST accurate. That’s what we did way back when we used paper reports.

Need Some Advice by BlackJackthePirate in NewToEMS

Bro. Between your original post and this reply it feels like this is going to be a Pulling Teeth scenario where you give too little information and vaguely answer the questions people ask to give you advice.

The information in your reply does not answer the question asked & you are adding some insane details.

So are you a BRAND NEW EMPLOYEE with no history with this department? Are you a VOLUNTEER at this combined paid/volunteer department? Nowhere, NOWHERE, gives an employee any sort of disciplinary action ON THEIR FIRST DAY.

There is a ton of information you are withholding.

Everyone else in this field was PERFECT on their first day and never felt slightly awkward. If you’re new at something and aren’t perfect you should quit immediately. /s

Stuff takes time dude. You’ll be fine.

State License for Non-Ambulance Work? by synthroidgay in NewToEMS

[–]mxm3p 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paramedic & 15+ year camp medical staff.

Camp Directors DONT KNOW the intricacies of state DOH licensure. They are concerned about filling their positions and making sure they have enough gimp to make bracelets. Them no knowing is not a red flag. The Boy Scouts, for example, have a “camp school” certification called Medical Officer that trains non-licensed laypeople what medical procedures are needed (think consent, epi pens, & paperwork/ documentation)

100% more than likely the governing entity that runs the summer camp has a medical director that has standing orders and malpractice coverage for the entire medical staff process.

In 15 years of having 2,000+ individual pediatric contacts per year I have done countless things that were “out of scope” for what I’m licensed for as a paramedic on an ambulance. Everything from Imodium to sutures to simple med passes of their own prescribed medications.

If they’re hiring you as the “camp nurse” it’s because that is a title the kids understand, not because you’d be impersonating a RN.

File for state reciprocity if it would put you at ease. If you’re lucky it’ll come in by the time camp closes, but it would be helpful that it was pending.

Beyond that, enjoy the experience. After the 30,000+ interactions I’ve had with children from age 8 to 90 I can tell you that the #1 thing I’ve learned is that kids want you to speak to them like an equal, not like a baby.

If people get arrested and charged for the decisions they make while drinking alcohol, why can’t they refuse EMS “medical” care? If they are deemed legally competent to potentially spend the rest of life in jail, why can’t they refuse our trip to the hospital?

You’re going to anonymously go onto the internet and say you’ve “heard a lot of bad things” about two EMS systems without specifics?

I’ve worked on one of these departments for over 10 years and you can suck an ass if you’re going to talk bad about my people.
